Funeral service for former Frederick resident, Roger Lee Deckard, age 56, of
Warner, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derrick Johnson officiating.
Mr. Deckard passed away Friday, January 16, 2026, at Countryside Estates Nursing Home in
Warner, Oklahoma. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Roger Lee Deckard was born on the 4th of September 1969, to Clara B. and Robert Lee Deckard in
Altus, Oklahoma. He was a very welcomed addition to the family, especially to his three older sisters who thought he was the cutest thing ever because he was a boy. As a young kid growing up in Frederick, he learned to hunt and fish from his parents who were very good at it. They taught him well.
Roger attended church at Hawkins Chapel COGIC, where the late Reverend Lathon Archie Sr. was pastor. He attended Frederick Public Schools and loved sports. He played football and ran track. He excelled in football, it was his passion. Roger played college level football in Kansas until he was injured and could no longer play due to an injury. He loved our Frederick Bombers and the Dallas Cowboys.
A few years later, he met and fell in love with a young woman named Connie Celestine, in Tahlequah Oklahoma. They moved back to Frederick and had three beautiful children: David, Tony, and Talytha. Roger worked many years as a farming assistant, at the dairy, and other odd jobs in the Tillman County area to support his young family.
As Roger grew older, he became enthused by a new thing at the time called noodling. He and a few of his old friends from high school became avid in this new sport. He enjoyed it but his parents and sisters were scared he'd be bitten by a snake or something. Roger would laugh at them especially when he brought home big fish. Or won a tournament. All of his nieces and nephews loved their Uncle Roger. He had nicknames for just about all of them. Each of them has their own special memories of growing up watching our family sportsman.
In later years, Roger and Connie moved to Beaumont, Texas. When he moved back to Frederick, they co-parented their three children together. Roger would travel throughout the school year to visit and spend time with them. During the summer they would come live with him in Frederick. It was after a trip taking them back home for their new school year that changed everything.
Roger returned and something no one expected happened. His family received a call that when he got back home, he had fell and hit his head. Family members had the caller to dial 911. When the family arrived, Roger had to be transported to Comanche County Hospital in Lawton. He was admitted there for a while. Connie returned back to Oklahoma to be at his side with his family. She was very supportive throughout this time. Which we his family appreciated so very much.
Because the incident was so severe he was never able to return home again. The remainder of his years he lived in a specialized care facility in
Warner, Oklahoma. The nursing staff and his doctors there took very good care of Roger. When family visited, he was always very well cared for. He did well for a long time. On the morning of 16 January 2026, he left from our presence. We will miss him dearly.
Mr. Deckard is survived by two sons: David and Tony Celestine; one daughter: Talytha Celestine; three grandchildren; his father: Minister Robert Lee Deckard; seven sisters: Sherie Hatcher (Reginald), Shirley Wren, Yolaunda Ferrell (Jermaine), Kelsey Deckard, Lucille Deckard, Debra Ann Deckard, Renae Deckard; one brother: Ricky Deckard; two aunts: Dorothy Massey, and Marion Oliver; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Booker T. and Sammie Lee Hill; his mother: Clara B. (Thomas) Deckard; his sister: Lawanda Thomas; and his brother: Darryl E. Deckard.
