Roger C. Duer, 81, of Columbus, fell asleep in death at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Roger was born August 15, 1943, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the son of Franklin N. and Evelyn L. Baker Duer. On September 15, 1961, he married Sandra L Fricke. Mr. Duer was a painter for over 25 years in the Columbus area. After he accepted a management position with the G.C. Murphy company, it was then that Roger and Sandra would come to know Columbus. Later on, as a painter for Newland & White Decorators, he had the honor of painting many homes in the area including historic homes and the homes of families with a deep history or connection with the town itself. Taking vacations to San Diego, Myrtle Beach, or Hilton Head were some of his favorite places to go with his wife, Sandy, family and friends. Roger was a lover of God's Word and spent a large portion of his life sharing in the ministry as a long-time member of the Columbus, Indiana Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. His most important relationship was with his Heavenly Father, Jehovah. Bible truths and principles governed his life. This affected his life and those with whom he associated with. Two Bible truths concerned the condition of the dead and the hope of living forever o a paradise earth. He shared this hope from the Scriptures and directed ones to JW.org for more information. Because of how he lived his life, Roger will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Sandra; children, Tracey Wright, Anthony (Melissa) Duer, Heather (Jamie) Johnson; grandchildren, Aaron Wright, Lindsay (Kody) Robertson, Kaylee (Zach) Deaton, Breanna Watkins; great-granddaughter, Hailee Beavers; sister, Kay Ann Davidson; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Duer and son-in-law, Michael Wright. In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and a memorial service for Roger will be held April 19, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Columbus Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 545 N. National Road, Columbus, Indiana 47201, with Tim McConnell officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made by visiting jw.org.
