Roger Earl Glann, "Mobeyplumb", passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born to parents Kenneth and Ruth (Davis) Glann on February 9, 1937, in Sioux City, Iowa. Roger graduated from Iowa State University, with a bachelors degree in physics, where he met the love of his life Susan (Schultz) Glann, who survives him.
Roger and Susan were married in 1958 and together they had four children. As Roger and Susan grew their family they lived in Iowa, Seattle and eventually, in 1965, settled in Connecticut. He is also survived by his children. Debra (Glann) Medere and her husband David of Toledo, Ohio. Diana (Glann) Merenuk and her husband Clay of Loganville, Georgia. Kenneth Scott Glann and his wife Christina of East Haddam, Connecticut. Jennifer (Glann) Haney and her husband Joe of Manchester, Connecticut.
Roger's education continued in Connecticut by earning his master's degree from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute with a concentration in Computer Science. He was an engineer by trade and began his career at Boeing in Seattle. Roger's next job at Pratt & Whitney is what led him and his family to Connecticut, and eventually United Technologies where he was the manager of information systems working on the Fuel Cell for the space shuttles. After retiring, he went on to consulting which aided in research and development of many systems, for multiple companies.
Roger was an avid tennis player. He played singles as well as doubles regularly with his wife Susan, who was his favorite doubles partner. He also taught his kids Deb, Diana and Scott how to ski. They would ski at Mt Tom in Massachusetts and coached his daughter Diana in basketball. Roger loved cheering his kids on as they participated in various athletics. Roger also loved a great adventure with his kids; whether it was weekends away, camping, fishing, walks or spontaneous drives.
Roger was quite the musician too. He had a beautiful voice that could be heard over the crowd singing in church or Christmas carols at one of his children's school programs. He played the trumpet and, also knew his way around the harmonica. His son Scott and his youngest daughter Jennifer followed in his musical footsteps, and he loved to support their musical endeavors.
Some of Roger's favorite times were spent with his growing extended family at the beach. Each summer, Roger and his wife Susan would travel to Myrtle Beach and then Panama City Beach to have an annual family vacation. He also enjoyed long walks around the lake near their home in Tolland.
Roger is also survived by his grandchildren Quint Merenuk and his wife Jennifer, Cody, Slate Gray, Brianna (Merenuk) Toney and her husband Jesse, Jared Merenuk and his wife Brooke, Abigail (Merenuk) Lisenba and her husband Ryan, and Alex Dumez. His great grandchildren Micah Merenuk, Jesse Toney II, Everleigh Merenuk, Josie Toney and Wyatt Toney.
