Roger Gregory IV, 60, of New Kent, passed away suddenly on June 4th. He was the son of Roger Gregory III and Martha Jane Gregory.
Roger was raised in New Kent on the Castle Farm. He attended Chickahominy Academy, where he played on the soccer team, and later New Kent High School, where he played football.
After graduating from New Kent High School in 1983, Roger attended Nashville Auto-Diesel College where he studied Diesel Technology. Years later he studied Automotive Dealership Management at J. Sergeant Reynolds and attended the Mendenhall School of Auctioneering to become a licensed auctioneer.
Roger initially started his career as a mechanic and worked at VDOT and Henrico County working on various types of equipment. He took great pride in being able to fix anything with an engine. As he grew professionally, he was able to combine his technical expertise with his love for people and worked in customer service and product support in the motorcoach industry. His last job was with Temsa North America where he traveled much of the East Coast working with customers who quickly became friends, because no one was a stranger to Roger.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting deer and turkey on the Castle Farm, as well as waterfowl hunting along the Pamunkey River. Over the years he was joined by family, many friends, and his faithful retrievers Flash, Parker, and P.J. Roger's true passion was fishing, and he would fish anywhere and everywhere. He had a bucket list of fishing destinations and specific species that he wanted to catch. He had fished waterways from Canada to the Florida Keys, but there was nothing he loved more than crappie fishing on the Pamunkey. If he wasn't fishing on the weekend, he was spending time working on cars with his son or traveling with him to racing events.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Martha Jane Gregory. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Rechele McMillan Gregory; their son, Roger McMillan Gregory; and a daughter, Scarlett Maiden (Davey) and their daughter Tilly. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Gregory Mitchell (Jeffrey), and their son, Justin; and many other family members and friends.
A service will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Providence Forge, Virginia on Saturday, June 14, at 4:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roger Gregory Jr and Emma E. Gregory Endowment, at Colonial Farm Credit in Mechanicsville, VA, or the Stacey Shiflett or Barbie Brown Cumberbatch Memorial Scholarships at New Kent High School.
