Pastor Roger Jackson Groce, 87, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025. He was born January 15, 1938 in Yadkin County to the late Farmer and Irene Ferguson Groce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Mathis Groce; and an infant brother Ronnie Groce. Pastor Groce served the Lord Jesus faithfully having answered the call to preach for 58 years. He was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church. Roger enjoyed preaching, gardening, and he was a master carpenter. He is survived his children, Beverly (Jim) Groce Buice, Roger “Von” (Donna) Groce; grandchildren, Crystal (Mikey) Mullis, Landon Poplin (Katie McClean), Caleb (Morgan) Poplin; great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Addy, Nora, Henry, Joseph. The family will receive friends, from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Marler Road Baptist Church. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM in the church with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care shown to Roger and his family. And a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Walker with Elkin Pediatric and Adult Medicine for the great care and special home visits. Memorials may be made to Marler Road Baptist Church Building Fund. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Groce family.
