Roger D. Jable, age 84, of Naperville, IL and formerly of Downers Grove, IL, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Born in Berwyn, IL to parents Mildred and Charles Jable, Roger was the eldest of two children. After graduating from Proviso Township High School, Roger proudly enrolled at Northwestern University, where Roger was a collegiate Track & Field athlete - earning an acclaimed letter in Pole Vaulting. Upon receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Roger went on to achieve his Masters from the University of Michigan. Roger began his professional career at Ford Motor Company, dedicating 13 years there before finishing his career as Chief Engineer at Hendrickson Manufacturing Company in Burr Ridge, IL until his retirement in 2005. Retirement brought about time for Roger to enjoy his favorite hobbies of golf, Northwestern University Football, restoring a 1965 Ford Thunderbird convertible and above all, spending time with his family.
While in high school, Roger was fortunate enough to meet his life-long sweetheart, Jan, whom he married on December 22, 1962. Moving to Michigan for his employment with Ford, Jan and Roger began their life and family together, raising three loving sons, Scott, Ross and Todd. In 1976, Roger and Jan moved the family to Downers Grove. There, Roger was very active within the community, with coaching his sons' baseball teams, with Downers Grove First United Methodist Church, and with Downers Grove South High School where he attended all his sons' events and was proudly instrumental in the first installation of lights at the DGS football stadium. It was during this time that Roger and Jan began their annual visits to Hawaii and Scottsdale, a tradition that would continue for most of their lives. In 1993, the family relocated to Naperville, IL and in 1999 Roger welcomed his first of seven grandchildren. Ever-present, Roger never missed a game, concert, recital, play, swim meet, birthday, graduation, or any aspect of his grandchildren's lives.
Roger was the beloved husband of 62 years to Jan Jable, nee Hoehne. Loving father of Scott (Chris) Jable, Ross Jable and Todd (Laura) Jable. Proud Pop-Pops of Cole, Addy, Grant, Connor, Brooke, Maya and Alec. Dear brother of the late Gayle (David) Draus. Fond uncle of Amy (Justin) Alver. Roger will be greatly missed by all his family, as well as the numerous coworkers and friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Visitation to be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 3:00-8:00PM at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515.
Family and friends to meet for a Funeral Service on Saturday, September 21, 2024 beginning at 10:00AM at Downers Grove First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave., Downers Grove, IL 60515. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park, IL.
