Betsy G. Jable

Betsy Glantz Jable, 80, of Pompton Plains, passed away peacefully at home on October 26 due to recurring cancer.
She was born on October 8, 1941, in Ridgeway, PA and resided in Emporium, PA and Seneca Falls, NY. A 1963 graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo, Betsy taught English and drama at high schools in Olean and West Nyack, NY and Saddle Brook, NJ. In 1973, William Paterson University hired her to coordinate the college catalog; three years later, she became the university's scheduling officer, a position she held until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure at William Paterson, she earned a Master's degree in Communication Arts. As secretary of Friends of Lake Neepaulin, Betsy was instrumental in preserving the lake in Sussex County. She enjoyed playing the organ, gardening, bowling, and traveling, but her favorite was going out with the Red Hats. She was an active parishioner at her church, serving on various committees and attending Bible study.
She is survived by her husband, J. Thomas Jable, and her daughter, Joy Jable.
Visitation hours are Tuesday, November 2 from 4 to 8 pm at Scanlan Funeral Home, 781 Newark Pompton Tpke.,, Pompton Plains, NJ. Interment will be at Newton Cemetery in Emporium on November 6. A memorial service will be held at the First Reformed Church on Saturday, November 20 at 11 am.
