Roger Thomas Maker

Roger Thomas "Tommy" Maker, 89, of Guthrie, Oklahoma passed away at home surrounded by family November 11th, 2025. Tommy was born December 1, 1935, in Guthrie to Harold L. and Esther H. (Kelly) Maker.

Tommy graduated from Guthrie High School in 1955. Tommy and his Jr. High Sweetheart, Peggy Colibert, were married in a blizzard on February 4th, 1957.

Tommy's first job was in high school where he worked for Buck Eldridge at his gas station. Later he worked at the old Ice Plant, and then at the Tire Shop before entering the Army.

Tommy was trained in Field Artillery upon entering the Army but quickly distinguished himself as a Mess Cook. Tommy loved his time cooking in the Army at Fort Lewis Washington. He kept that love of cooking throughout his life preparing meals for his family.

Upon leaving the Army, Tommy joined his dad and brother, Delbert with Maker's Glass Shop. He worked for his dad and later purchased the Glass Shop. He and Peggy retired when Tommy turned 70. Maker's Glass Shop was more than a name; he was joined by his son and nephew, while Peggy was keeping them all in line and doing the bookwork. During his over 40 years serving Guthrie, there were few people that had not called on him for a broken window or locked door. He greeted them all with a smile and a story most of the time.

Tommy's greatest joy was his family. It started with his kids and grandkids but went much deeper. He loved more nieces and nephews than we can count and was always there for them just like his kids. Sometimes Peggy and he would open their hearts to someone as more than friends; they became family.

Tommy is preceded in death by his wife Peggy who passed away on November 29, 2022; parents, Harold and Esther Maker; brothers, Bill and Linden; and sister, Eleanor.

He leaves behind him his son, Gary Maker of Guthrie; daughter Barbara Doughty and husband, Manny of Edmond, Oklahoma; 7 grandkids; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 15, 2025 at First Assembly of God Church located at 1900 South Division Street in Guthrie. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
