My first encounter with Roger was when he was director of the choir at Meridian Avenue Baptist Church in west Wichita. I learned so much from him. His oboe playying was delightful. I am proud to call Roger Roller my friend.

Mr. Roller was my first band teacher at Mary Kelly Elementary School in Wichita and at Truesdell Jr. High. I remember him as a kind and gentle man who patiently kept the beat as we bleated and squawked with our new instruments. I have him to thank for the love of music that has given me so much in my life.

I first meet mr roller in elementary school. But took band at Wilbur JR high. He was a great band teacher and very funny ( mostly when he didn't even try )
Mr roller new more about all the instruments than almost any one I've ever known. I was a great pleasure to be a student. I still tell stories about him to my kids.

I fondly remember my days at Truesdell and South High playing in band and orchestra, with Mr. Roller conducting. Richard was one of my classmates those years. Not sure either of us enjoyed marching band during freezing weather, but Mr. Roller worked hard to make music fun. I'm sure we frustrated him at times, but he always tried to bring out the best in us.

Roger was the Choir Director at Meridian Avenue when I was the fledgling organist. He was a total delight to work with and had the patience of Job. If ever there was a nice man, it was Roger. I'm so glad to have know both he and Shirley when my family and I were members of Meridian Avenue. My Mother and Father were Karl and Gladys Wise, long time members as well. Daddy was a Deacon and Treasurer for many years.

To Mr. Roller's Family, I was not privileged to take band/orchestra from Mr. Roller...I was highly involved in vocal music. I remember him as part of a great team at Truesdell and South High that led a tremendous music program. Mr. Roller was (to me) a gentleman who shared his love for music and took joy in sowing those seeds in students. I recognized him to be a man of faith...and appreciated that special quality in him. May God bless you and make memories of him remain pure and sweet throughout your lives.

I was the Worship Minister at Westlink christian church in Wichita and I had the privilege of hiring Roger to play oboe with our orchestra. He played very well and was always a joy to visit with. A credit to his profession.

Roger and I taught together at the old Wichita School of Music at Harry and Broadway. I was in my 3r5d year of college at WSU, and he taught me the ins and outs of teaching one on one and what to expect and how to get the results. I have thought of him often since we met in 1963. My prayers go in thanksgiving for a kind, gentle, incredible musician and person. May he make first chair in God's finest orchestra!!

Richard and the extended Roller family.....remembering you, Richard, during my time at Friends in the early '70's.....but remembering your Dad as I grew up and went thru Truesdell and Wichita South; I was never in band or orchestra, but your dad along with Mr McKinney at Truesdell and Mr Brimmer and Miss Fisher at South, was instrumental (if you'll excuse the pun) in shaping my love of all kinds of music, especially at South where I had an art class next to the band room.
You make your own conclusions!
I'm sure there are lots of wonderful memories of him to help you all thru your loss, but wanted you to know he touched many more lives than just mine!!

I miss my pickleball buddy. We were partners many times and even won a few.
God speed Roger.
