Roger J. Schmuke, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at LifeCare Center of Sullivan surrounded by his family.
Roger John Schmuke was born on June 13, 1943 in Saint Louis, Missouri to the late John and Lucille (Woods) Schmuke. He grew up and attended school in Saint Louis, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1961. Shortly after high school, Roger enlisted into the United States Navy and proudly served our country until his honorable discharge in 1968.
Once returning home from the service, Roger was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Feager on October 4, 1969. The couple were soon blessed with a son, Curt. They continued living in Stanton, Missouri while Roger was employed at Southern Equipment as a machinist and welder. The family later moved to Sullivan in the late 70's, where Roger and Dorothy made it their final home. He then went to work for Duke Manufacturing in downtown Saint Louis and remained there until his retirement in 2010.
Outside of working, Roger enjoyed the simplicity of a quiet life. A homebody at heart, Roger enjoyed tending to his lawn and woodworking. He took time each day to slow down, kick back and smoke his pipe while on the front porch. He enjoyed music and cherished time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted son, Curt Schmuke and wife Jana of Sullivan, Missouri; two grandchildren, Wieland and Lily Schmuke of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean; his parents, John and Lucille Schmuke; and a brother, Carl Schmuke.
Graveside Services will be 12:30 PM, Monday, April 21, 2025 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri with full military honors.
Visitation will be 9 – 11 AM, Monday, April 21, 2025 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
