Roger Shobe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Pocomoke City on Feb. 26, 2026.
Roger Lynn Shobe passed away at his home in Salisbury, Maryland after a period of illness on February 23, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1955, in Sand Fork, West Virginia. Roger's journey was marked by his impact on countless people through his generosity to others through service.

Roger spent his childhood in Pocomoke, Maryland and graduated from Pocomoke High School as a proud member of the Class of 1973, a soccer goalkeeper, and a trombonist in the marching band. His academic and athletic pursuits led him to James Madison University, where he defended the nets as the starting goalkeeper for the Division I soccer team. His success with the Dukes led him to be selected to participate in the United States Olympic Soccer team trials. His studies in Physical Education laid the groundwork for what would become a lifelong dedication to sports and coaching.

Soccer was not just a sport for Roger; it was a way of life. He continued to play at a competitive level well into his 50's in local leagues and tournaments. He shared his passion for the game eagerly as a coach of the Holly Grove Men's Soccer team alongside Marvin Detweiler. Roger mentored the next generation of players with an unwavering spirit and a tactical mind. In addition to coaching, he was most notably found on the sidelines cheering for his daughter Abbey throughout her soccer career. His love for the game was accompanied by playing golf, watching Orioles baseball, and most importantly, spending quality time with his friends and family.

In the professional realm, Roger's career was as diverse as it was successful. With a natural aptitude for leadership, he managed food and beverage operations for several esteemed Maryland restaurants and as a seafood sales representative for Lankford Sysco for many years. However, it was his home improvement business where Roger's heart truly lay. Here, he combined his creative and analytical mind with his handy skills to transform spaces and lives, ensuring customer satisfaction was not just a goal, but a guarantee. Later in life, Roger discovered a passion for more finite skills in retail point-of-sale service repair and maintenance.

Roger's legacy is carried on by his daughters, Abbey Shobe and Brandi Castaneda; son-in-law, Ian Castaneda; and his grandchildren, Aubrie, Maddie, and Darian Castaneda. He is also survived by his sister, Izetta Christy and several nieces and nephews. Roger now joins his dear departed family members, including his siblings Linda Jones, Carol Humphrey, Ronald Shobe and Marion Shobe Jr., along with his parents, Marion Sr. and Virginia (Marie) Shobe, in eternal peace.

As we celebrate Roger's life, please join the family for a memorial service to be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:30 with a period of visitation beginning at 1:30 at Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine St., Pocomoke City, MD 21851. In lieu of flowers, please consider mailing a check donation to Holly Grove Christian School to the care of the Varsity Men's Soccer Team.
