A private burial service will be held at a later date at Martha's Chapel Cemetery in Cunningham, TN.
Roger was born on May 23, 1942 in Pocahontas, IA to Harris Richard and Ila Jane (McDonald) Stafford. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1960. After high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served his country for 20 years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his military service, Roger remained active at Fort Hood working for Morale Welfare Recreation as a civilian employee. Roger retired in Killeen, TX. After the death of his wife Nora in 2011, Roger moved back to Grinnell to be closer to family. Roger loved golf, and as a dear friend shared, he was one of the best putters and chippers he had ever seen.
Roger is survived by two brothers, Lee (Kaye) of Elizabethtown, KY and Wayne of Chandler, AZ; nephews, Patrick (Jennifer) of Guyton, GA, Phillip (Lynnette) of Tiffin, IA, Paul (Jody) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Shannon (Yuzhen) of Indianola, IA, Thad (Bonnie) of Moorhead MN, Brian (Emily) of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces, Steffani (Christopher Olson) of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Stacy Nelson (Jeff) of Prior Lake, MN; and their families.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Windsor Manor, Montezuma Specialty Care and Care Initiatives Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion towards the end of Roger's earthly life.

Roger and I were serious golfing buddies for over 10 years. I was also Norma´s Hospice Chaplain when she passed. Roger never got over her passing. Sunny and I visited Roger several times in Grinnell, once on his birthday. Roger was the best chipper and putter I ever knew. We last visited him in Dec but I don´t remember what year. He was in the memory unit by then. We miss him very much.

Roger and I golfed hundreds of times with our friends. We often teamed up, in fact, one day he and were playing 6 other guy, every combination I might add. I bogeyed the 18th and soon after watch Roger top his tee shot on the same hole. I knew we were about to lose mucho $. He pulls out his driver, the " white whale ". and proceeds to hit the driver off the deck to 3 feet. He made the putt! for bird!
Really sorry to hear about Roger. He was a real stand up man.
