Roger Stillabower Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Feb. 14, 2025.
Roger Dale Stillabower, passed from this life at his home in Columbus, Indiana, on February 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on June 15, 1947, in Columbus, he was the cherished son of the late Virgil O. and Alberta A. Strobeck Stillabower.
Roger was a United State Army veteran being stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged August 15, 1968.
Roger's journey through life was one marked by devotion and companionship. On August 9, 1969, he married his beloved wife, Gloria J. Smith, and together they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. Gloria survives him, carrying forward the legacy of their shared dreams. Roger was a loving father to his son, Chris (Kathrine) Stillabower of Columbus, and a doting grandfather to Ryder and Mavix Stillabower, Teagan Thompson, and Cody King. Roger is also survived by his sisters, Brenda (John) White of Taylorsville and Dana (Tom) Hobbs of Ogilville; sisters-in-law, Paulette Nesbitt and Jackie Howe, both of Virginia, his brother-in-law, John Smith of Washington, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason Stillabower, and his sister Sharon Thompson.
Professionally, Roger was a respected figure at Cummins Engine Company, where he dedicated many years of service before his retirement. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger was a man of many passions. He found solace and pleasure in fishing, where the quietude of nature was a balm for his soul. His love for car shows was well-known, as he spent countless hours admiring the craftsmanship and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. At home, Roger's playful spirit came alive as he spent time with his beloved dogs, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
As we bid farewell to Roger Dale Stillabower, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Adam Carrigan will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Roger will be laid to rest at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
