Roger D. Welch, 67, of Springfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born on March 16, 1958, in Troy, he was the beloved son of Marilyn (Garrison) Welch and E. Merle Welch. Roger graduated from Troy Area High School with the Class of 1976, a time that held many fond memories for him.
Over the years, Roger held jobs at Super Duper, Seeley's Petroleum, Red Hen, and Oak Hill Veneer. Most recently, he greatly enjoyed volunteering his time at the Bradford County Manor. Roger's easygoing nature, quick wit, and sense of humor made him well-liked by everyone he encountered.
Roger had a lifelong love of sports. During high school he participated in football, golf, and track. He was a devoted NASCAR fan-cheering on Mark Martin-and kept up with the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and Penn State Football.
Those who knew Roger best will remember his friendly spirit. He had a laid-back charm and a knack for making people smile-whether through a witty remark, a story, or just being himself. He made friends easily wherever he went. He was a devoted son, a loyal brother, and a proud father and grandfather. Some of his favorite times were spent camping with family and friends, enjoying good company and a relaxed pace.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Welch; his children, Mudge (Allison) Welch of Ephrata and Mitchell (Sarah) Welch of Troy; and his grandchildren, Myla, Rita, Emmalene, and Elliette. He is also survived by siblings Sue Farrell of Mansfield, Dennis (Debbie) Welch of Troy, Mary Ellen Welch, and Vonnie (Martin) Waters of Minnesota, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
Roger now joins in memory his father, E. Merle Welch; his daughter, Libby Mae Jones; and his brother-in-law, Ronald Farrell.
The Welch family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Guthrie Towanda Skilled Nursing for their compassionate care and support during Roger's time there.
