Roger Duane Windover was born on April 27, 1944, in Troy, New York, to Kenneth and Susan Davenport Windover. He grew up in New York State and attended Union Springs Academy for all four years of high school.
After graduation, Roger continued in the family business with Culligan Water in South Texas. Later, after selling his business in Corpus Christi, he returned to New York, where his talent for transforming small businesses into thriving enterprises became clear. Union Springs Academy recognized his gift and invited him to identify businesses where students could gain valuable work experience. Roger also played an instrumental role in the building of the Union Springs Academy Church and in drilling the campus gas well.
Roger eventually settled in Saranac, New York, where he purchased a small feed and hardware store. With his vision and hard work, he grew it into Windover's Home Center, a trusted and beloved community cornerstone. His passion for service and his dedication to people left a lasting impact on the community.
In retirement, Roger returned to Meyersville, Texas, where he enjoyed life on a small ranch with cattle and donkeys, alongside his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Joyce Gadway Windover.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Susan Windover, his brother, Ken Windover, and his sister, Debra Bock. His legacy lives on through his children: Rocco Windover (Zenovia), Anthony Windover (Kim), Bryan Windover (Loydith), and Susan Carroll (Donald); as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Doug Windover (Chris) and Everett Windover (Sarah Lyn)
Roger will be remembered as a man with a big heart, always ready to help anyone in need. He was known for his leadership in Pathfinders, as a faculty sponsor, and through his church service. His generosity, vision, and devotion to others touched countless lives, and he will be missed immensely.
A visitation will be held at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Victoria, Texas from 9 AM to 11 AM with a funeral service to begin at 10 AM.
