Mattie Albrecht Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 15, 2025.
Mattie Joyce Albrecht passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on October 1, 1928, to James Eugene Sedwick and Mattie Skipworth Sedwick. She graduated from King High School in Kingsville and attended Texas A&I University, where she met her future husband, William D. (Billy) Albrecht. They married in Kingsville on Saturday, October 29, 1949 at the First Baptist Church. Joyce and Billy celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage before his death in 2006. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Goliad, where she served on the church council for many years, and as its President. She was also very active in the community, a member of the Astron Club as well as two local bridge clubs. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for members of her family and extended family. Joyce treasured these times, as well as entertaining family and friends at the family's Clip ranch house.
She was lovingly known as "Momo" by her grandsons and great grandchildren. Joyce never missed an opportunity to recognize birthdays for her family members. She sent cards and gifts and always planned ahead so those remembrances arrived on time. She was truly a force-regal in spirit, and fiercely devoted to her family. Joyce was stubborn and led with an iron will, though her heart was warm. Her legacy of strength and grace will always be remembered.
Joyce was also quite the sportswoman. She was a champion shotgun shooter and was named an All-American shooter in 1964. She thoroughly enjoyed all sorts of hunting activities on the Albrecht ranches, including dove, quail, deer and wild turkey. Joyce was the matriarch of the Albrecht ranches, which were founded in 1874. As such, she was recognized by the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum as one of the 10 most influential women in ranching. Joyce was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. She spent countless hours watching her favorite teams on television, as well as watching major championship golf. She enjoyed attending and hosting parties. She was one of that great generation who thoroughly enjoyed partying with friends and family.
Joyce is survived by her son Bill Albrecht (Franke), her twin grandsons Byron Luke Albrecht (Heather), and Dr. William Clay Albrecht (Megan), and her five great grandchildren, Drew, Allie, Kate, George, and Ford Albrecht. Joyce suffered much loss during her lifetime, having been predeceased by her parents, husband Billy, sister Jean Bissett, brothers Kenneth Leon and Arthur James (Jimmy) Sedwick, daughter Jean Ann Beasley, and grandsons Trey Walker and Mark Albrecht.
A private graveside service will be held in her honor at a date and time to be determined. Our family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by Always Best Care in Sugar Land, and the staff of Grand Living Riverstone. The family asks that memorial donations may be made to the donors choice.
