Roice Brent Eggleston was born June 3, 1947 to Arlo and Joice Eggleston in Afton, Wyoming. He died unexpectedly on December 24, 2024 as he was enjoying time with his family at Christmas Eve dinner. Brent was the 2nd of 10 children. He grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. He later attended Weber State College. He had a successful 29-year career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax Auditor and later a Revenue Agent.
Brent had health challenges throughout his life. He was born with several heart problems and had two major surgeries to address them during his youth, one at age 5 and another at age 14. In recent years he was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension and also successfully battled prostate cancer. He often used to say he was living on borrowed time.
He met his sweetheart Vonda at a church young adult fireside. She walked up to him and introduced herself, and he in turn introduced himself and walked away! They were later set up on a blind date, had a fun time and began to date and fell in love. They were married on January 31, 1976 in the Oakland California Temple for time and all eternity. Brent and Vonda had two sons, Ryan and Kyle. Family was important to Brent. When the boys were younger, family trips usually meant traveling to spend time with grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. He was a good father and a wonderful husband and made many sacrifices to make sure his wife and sons were well provided for.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brent faithfully served in whatever calling he was given. He made sure his sons were able to serve full-time missions and he supported his wife in various callings she has held. He had a strong testimony of the Savior and His Gospel and could often be found studying the scriptures and learning about Gospel topics.
Brent had a good sense of humor and was a good neighbor and friend. He was slow to anger and very patient. He was honest and made sure to do things the right way.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vonda; sons, Ryan (Stacy) and Kyle (Sami); grandchildren Mercedes (Kyle), Samuel (Lauren), Nelson, Izayiah, Bernice, Brooklyn, Emiyeah, Dee, Braden (Kristen), Bailey (Levi), and Brittney (Zach); great-grandchildren Jax, Coy, Mason, Aspen, RaeLynn, and Emma; siblings Randal (Victoria), Dallas, Shana (Jube), Chuck, Sandi (Doug), Steve, and Ralph (Ann). Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Karen Miles and Darla Sausville.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 300 Ridgecrest Dr, Saginaw, TX 76179. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
