Gary Charles Reed, 77, of Pleasant View, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2025, due to heart complications. His passing was unexpected and deeply felt by his loved ones.
Gary was born on May 27, 1947, in Havre, Montana. As the son of a U.S. Air Force officer and pilot, his early years were filled with travel across the country and around the world. During his time in Okinawa, Japan, Gary showcased his athletic talent by playing for a team that competed in the Little League World Series, earning MVP in his regional. His family later moved to Utah, where he attended Ben Lomond High School and earned a football scholarship at Weber State.
After high school, he met the love of his life, Connie, and the two were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1969. Gary continued his education, earning his bachelor's degree at Weber State and his master's degree from Utah State University. He also began doctoral studies at the University of Iowa but chose to remain in Utah to be with his family rather than relocate to complete the program.
Gary devoted his professional life to education. He taught at Wahlquist Junior High and Roy High School before becoming an assistant principal at Roy High and Bonneville High School. He later had the distinguished honor of helping open Fremont High School, where he was the first principal and worked closely with fellow educators, shaping the lives of thousands of students. He also served as a principal at TH Bell and a co-principal of NUAMES and later worked as the director of buildings and facilities for the Ogden School District, proudly overseeing the renovations of both Ben Lomond High and Ogden High School.
As an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America, Gary mentored dozens of young men in earning their Eagle Scout rank. He served faithfully in numerous callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a full-time mission with his wife in Redlands, California, and an ordinance worker at the Ogden Temple.
Above all, Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Connie; children David (Missy), Kari Ann, and Randon (Marci); brothers Ken (Julie) and Steve; grandchildren Megan (Clayton), Tiffany (Keaton), Parker (Kylee), Jed (Carolyn), Evan (Melissa), Adam (Laurel), Alex, Ryan, Tristan, Mylee, Tyson, and Sydnee; and 13 great-grandchildren, with another expected this month.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary at 845 Washington Blvd. An additional viewing will take place on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant View Stake Center (2975 N 1000 W), followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. He will be interned in Ogden City Cemetery following the funeral.
If you had asked Gary how he was doing now, he'd flash a grin and say, "Just Peachy."
