Roland Herzig, (Rollie) age 96, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Hospice Home of Hope. Born on September 19, 1928, in Horicon, Wisconsin, Roland was the son of Frederick and Lydia (Schneider) Herzig. He graduated from Horicon High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he earned a Teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and a master’s degree from Northern Colorado University.
On June 26, 1954, he married the love of his life, Anna Mae Williams, in Wales, Wisconsin.
Roland had a passion for family, friends and the field of technology. He taught one of the first computer science classes for Moraine Park Technical Institute, where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1993.
A man of many talents and interests, Roland enjoyed working on computers, traveling, camping, and attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events. He was a dedicated Wisconsin sports fan and found great joy in photography and filming sporting events, holidays, and special moments of his family. One of his greatest passions was being part of the crew for his late son Jim’s professional snowmobile racing team.
Above all, Roland treasured time with family and friends. His steady presence, quiet humor, and deep love for those around him will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Neal) Gibbens, and their children:
– Emma Gibbens (Marcus Weyer) and their children Jack and Elsie
– Will (Elena) Gibbens, with a child on the way
He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Linda (John) Schroeder, and her children:
– Casey (Kristy) Herzig and their children Caleb, Hayley, Jaymes, and Samuel
– Emily (Alex) Beil and their sons Kellan and Clayton
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lydia Herzig; his beloved wife, Anna; his son, James Herzig; two brothers, Fred Herzig and Warren Walder; and his sister, Elizabeth Behrendt.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlands Senior Home and Hospice Home of Hope for caring for Roland.
Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will occur at Saint Charles Cemetery in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
