Roland B. "Pete" Wilson passed away at his home in Cypress, Texas, on November 10, 2022, at the age of 79 years.
He was born on January 12, 1943, in Carbondale, Illinois, to Roland Pulley Wilson and Leah Rae Armstrong Wilson.
He was reared in Marion, Illinois, and was a 1961 graduate of Marion High School where he was a talented football player. Roland furthered his education at the University of Illinois, where he was in the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, and was a James Scholar. In 1964, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering and went on to obtain his Master of Science degree in 1967 in Theoretical Applied Mechanics.
Roland was a dedicated and valued employee at Inland Steel Company as a research engineer and holds several patents.
In his pastime, he enjoyed playing handball, driving SCCA racecars, and he kept his mind busy with playing Sudoku puzzles. He was a quiet, analytic man with dry humor and deep faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland P. Wilson; mother, Leah Rae Wilson; and stepfather, Lynn Edsel Keller.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geneal Largent Wilson; sons and daughters-in-law, Roland L. & Jacqueline Wilson, and Brett & Judy Wilson; grandchildren, Roland K. Wilson, Magdeline Wilson, Emmett Wilson, Valerie Wilson, Lucas Wilson, and Courtney Becker; sister and brother-in-law, Sallie & Johnney Barrett; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg & Anna Largent.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
A graveside service will held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, IL on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Those attending the service may gather at the cemetery prior to 11:00 a.m.
