Roland Douglas Wright, was born on March 28, 1938 in Raliegh, North Carolina to the late David Leon and Mary Burton Wright. He entered eternal rest peacefully March 19, 2024 at the Carolton Nursing Home.
He was the son of six children. Roland was educated in the public school system in Bridgeport, CT. He was a graduate of Housatonic Community College and the University of Bridgeport where he studied engineering. He was employed as a designer at Sikorsky Aircraft for 36 years.
Roland was a faithful member of Golden Hill United Methodist Church (former member of Messiah Baptist Church). He founded the youth basketball league. Roland was a member of the gospel choir, and the trustee board and finance department of the church. In addition, Roland served as a board member at the YMCA. He served in the United States Airforce for four years.
Roland was very active in his community. He loved sports, as an umpire for the City of Bridgeport and a major supporter of the Special Olympics. He mentored the youth on and off the field. Roland enjoyed good food. You could find him often hanging out with his neighbors, the (late) John McDonald and Patricia McDonald. He loved R&B and Jazz. His favorite artist was Erika Badu.
He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. Everyone who met Roland was inspired by his computer knowledge and gift for giving.
Roland leaves to cherish in memory: two sons and a daughter Louis Reed (Antonia); Earl David Reed (Tina); Rene Reed (Orrieon III); grandchildren, Shante Henry, Haddasia Reed, and Orrieon Cowes IV(India) and several great grandchildren. A special military buddy Clarence Frazier of Fort Washington, Maryland.
A special first cousin, Brenda Burton Seldon, nieces and nephews especially Melanie Wright, Jerry Rowe, Charles Rowe, Horace Wright and host of many other relatives and friends that loved him dearly.
Roland was predeceased by brothers David Wright, Horace Wright, Burton Wright, Alonzo Wright and one sister, Marie Rowe; uncle and aunt Moses and Millie Burton; and a Sister-in-law Cora Wright.
The family would like to affectionately, thank Pastor Rhonda Taylor, members of the Church, Bridgeport Hospital staff and the Carolton Nursing home.

We were so sorry to just learn of Roland's passing. He was such a nice man. Speaking on behalf of the YMCA, I personally was so grateful to have his guidance and advice when I came to the Stratford YMCA. Our condolences.

Roland was a special neighbor. We had lots of fun during the 40 years we knew him. I used to tease him that he was always smiling so he must have had some thing special going on.
He will be missed. .The neighborhood will never quite be the same without his smiling face sitting in his garage, keeping watch over the neighborhood.
