Rollin Binzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Connor Mortuary - Laguna Hills Chapel & Mortuary on Nov. 6, 2025.
Rollin Seth Binzer
October 4, 1939 – October 1, 2025
Rollin Seth Binzer passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 1, 2025, at his home in Long Beach, California.
Born on October 4, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Dr. Harry and Elsa Binzer, Rollin's life was defined by creativity, curiosity, and love. Rollin spent his early youth in Valparaiso, Indiana, until his family relocated to Palm Springs. He attended Palm Springs High School, where his talent for art and humor quickly became apparent.
From a young age, Rollin's imagination knew no bounds. In his teens, he founded a wildly successful greeting card company that showcased his witty, offbeat drawings and hinted at the visionary artist he would become. He went on to make his mark in Chicago's advertising world, becoming the creative force behind Hurvis, Binzer & Churchill. As Art Director, Rollin led some of the firm's most iconic campaigns, including the unforgettable Screaming Yellow Zonkers and work with Chess Records.
His connection with Chess Records led to one of the most exciting chapters of his life-his introduction to The Rolling Stones. With his partners' encouragement, Rollin left Chicago for New York and London, where he directed what is now recognized as one of the earliest and most influential rock concert films, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones. His creative journey continued with numerous projects, including the acclaimed documentary The Providence Effect, each one reflecting his deep sense of humanity and artistic vision.
Before his creative career took off, Rollin proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, following in the footsteps of his older brothers. Later in life, he became an active and devoted member of his SGI-USA Buddhist organization in the San Fernando Valley, where he served as a men's group leader and mentored many with his trademark optimism and kindness.
Rollin's greatest joy, however, came from the people he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Farnum; his daughters, Mieke Dumont, Aubrey Binzer, and Shauna Meyer-Reimers; his son-in-law, Tom Dumont; his daughter-in-law, Melissa Binzer; and his seven grandsons-Brigg Reimers, Halo Binzer, Ace, Rio, and Koa Dumont, Gage Binzer, and Phoenix Binzer-along with countless nieces and nephews who adored and idolized him. He is preceded in death by his cherished son, Seth Brooks Binzer; his brothers, Robert and Vaughn Binzer; his sister, Dory Binzer; and his parents.
In his later years, Rollin could often be found sketching in the sunshine, reflecting on life, and sharing his wisdom and humor with his grandsons. He was a remarkable man-wildly talented, endlessly positive, and deeply loved. His laughter, creativity, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Services celebrating Rollin's extraordinary life will be held on November 22 at 12 p.m. at the San Fernando Valley Buddhist Center, 5263 Bakman Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91601.

I have fond memories of a road trip with Rollin, Dawson Haward and John Cunningham through the Pacific Northwest in the summer of 1957 after graduation from Palm Springs High School. We traveled in a war-surplus Jeep, with a small trailer for gear, up the Pacific coast to Portland, OR, then to Yellowstone, Bryce, Zion and Las Vegas. Rollin was or creative genius for fun adventures on this trip, including creating an entertainment program of skits and song and dance routines we would perform in bars for tips. Our performances were well received and even got us invited to a private home to perform at a party they were hosting.
