Romania Christene ("Tommie") Brown of Plains, Texas went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2024.
Tommie was born on the Cobb farm in rural Tokio, Texas on September 11, 1931, to Tennie Jane Worley and Sidney Forrest Pride.
A proud Lady Vaquero, Tommie graduated from Plains High School in 1948 and met James LaMerle ("Jim") Brown in 1951 while she was working at the café. Tommie and Jim married May 25, 1952, and went on to have four children, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren (listed below).
Tommie loved BIG. She was an avid reader and had many hobbies during her lifetime including cooking, sewing, and spending time with friends and family. Working in the church kitchen was her joy and she took that ministry very seriously. She loved serving communities through disaster relief, red cross support, and working as an election volunteer. She looked forward each week to getting her "hair screwed" on Tuesdays, Wednesday night suppers, Thursday game day at the library, and Friday lunches with her lady friends. Tommie was an original parrot-head (Jimmy Buffett fan), loved Elvis Presley, and was a blues and jazz enthusiast. She was always ready to hear or tell a joke and loved good-natured teasing. She was shy and funny, and loved making others feel wanted and welcomed. She was brave and lived life fully. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, surrounded by family. As one family member put it, "Tommie was the glue that held our family together."
Tommie was predeceased by her husband Jim, parents Sidney and Tennie Pride, brothers Charles Edwin ("Ted") Murph, Phillip Grover Murph, sisters Eulaila Roach, Mary Lee Hinkle, Adeline Estelle ("Jean") Wright, Marguerite Adams, and Helen Beal. She is survived by her children James Forrest ("Jim") Brown (Jaymie) of Denver City, Texas; Keri Sue McDaniel (Keith) of Alto, New Mexico; Tamra Lyn Morgan (Jim) of Midland, Texas; Traci Michelle Clements (Michael) of Highland Village, Texas; grandchildren Jessica Shults (JT), Justin Brown (Savannah), Kaeli Townes (Jason), Brendan McDaniel, Ryan Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Dylan Morgan, Nathan Morgan, great-grandchildren Scott Glascock, Kevin Glasscock, Daniel Glasscock, Ysabeau McDaniel, Jentry Shults, and Jase Shults, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitation on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Ratliff Funeral Home, 303 E. Broadway Street, Denver City, Texas (this will be the only time for open viewing). Services will be held at Plains First Baptist Church, 1400 SH 214, Plains, Texas on November 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., interment to follow at Plains Cemetery.
Tommie was passionate about supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family invites you to make a donation in Tommie's name.
The family would also like to send a special thank you to Kim Lopez RN, Miranda Reed RN, Crystal Arriaga RN, Alandra Arriaga, and to Dr. Frank Goodman and his staff at West Texas Medical Clinic for your care, compassion, and love for our dear mother.
