Ronald Lee Baas, age 81, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Friday, June 20, 2025. He was born on March 18, 1944, in Kalamazoo to Ben and Grace (DeVries) Baas.
Ron was a hardworking and passionate man who dedicated much of his life to his craft. He began by teaching painting apprenticeships in trade school and went on to become a successful painting contractor and proud owner of Baas Painting. His work ethic, eye for detail, and commitment to quality made a lasting impact on both clients and those he mentored.
He was a longtime member of Centerpoint Church, where his faith was central to his life. Ron also enjoyed fellowship through his involvement with the Third Reformed Bowling League and spent two decades golfing with his son Rich in a Golf League, creating lasting friendships and cherished memories.
A man of many passions, Ron had a deep love for Chevrolet Corvettes and the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, hunting, or spending a day on the golf course, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Above all, Ron treasured time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, G-pop, and a beloved brother and friend.
On June 25, 1965, Ron married the love of his life, Bonita “Bonnie” (Kalmink) Baas. Their bond was one of deep love and partnership, and their nearly 60 years of marriage stood as a beautiful testament to their commitment. Ron’s passing came just five days before they would have celebrated their diamond anniversary.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Bill Baas. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children: Rich (Sally) Baas, Sue (Kent) Woodward, and Rob (Heidi) Baas; daughter-in-law, Lisa Baas; and special bonus daughter, Carrie Banghart. Also surviving is his sister, Marilyn (Howard) Napp; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren with three more expected by September.
