Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel on Mar. 4, 2025.
Ronald "Ron" Lee Blunk, 83, of Mansfield, died March 2, 2025 following an extended illness.
He was born on November 4, 1941 in
Mansfield, Ohio to Gene and Agnes (Deley) Blunk, and graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1960. Ron proudly served in the US Army in the Vietnam War as a Communications Specialist and later in life earned a Bachelor's of Divinity from Massillon Baptist College.
A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Ron served as a police officer with the Mansfield City Police Department for 33 years before retiring in 2001 and was eventually dubbed as the "Old Fossil" of the department. After his retirement, he served as a bailiff for the Richland County Juvenile Court and the Richland County Domestic Relations Court for approximately eight years.
Ron had an affable personality, always joking around, though he preferred one-on-one communication and he was not big on attention. A voracious reader, Ron had a keen interest in history, especially the history of wars, and the television was often tuned to The History Channel. His interest in history was eclipsed only by his desire to know more about prophecy. He'd read countless volumes and attended several international conferences on prophecy. "Putting feet to his faith", Ron supported Christian missions on a personal level including Friends of Israel, SIM, Compassion International, and his son when he was in the mission field.
Throughout his years, Ron served in the Church by teaching Sunday School, leading a bus route with close friend Joe Schivinski, as a deacon, teaching Bible studies, and most recently as a prayer warrior. He was currently a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple and loved the people and the leadership at this church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda L. (Myers) Blunk, whom he married on July 23, 1971; twin sons Nathan (Candace) Blunk of Mansfield, Daniel (Alicia) Blunk of Pensacola, Florida; his youngest son, Chris (Melisa) Blunk of Mount Gilead; grandchildren Juliana, Cassidy, Vanessa, Astrid, Eden, Alyson (Aaron) Berg, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, and David-Allan; a brother, Larry Blunk of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews and many other cherished friends including his beloved little brother in Christ, Peter (Marybeth) Frantzis of Liverpool, NY.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and great friend Dan Brant, whom he served alongside with at the Mansfield City Police Department for many years.
The Blunk Family will receive friends on Monday March 10, 2025 from 5pm-8pm at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, Lexington Avenue Chapel (2553 Lexington Avenue in Mansfield) where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 11, 2025 at 11am. Pastor Rob Kurtz will officiate the funeral service and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Mansfield Baptist Temple, 752 Stewart Road North,
Mansfield, OH 44905.
