Ronald L. Chandler
1947-2025
"His love remains the light that guides us through the days ahead."
Ronald L. Chandler, age 78, of Ashland, KY, finally made it to his Heavenly home where his beloved wife and son were waiting to embrace him, on October 22, 2025.
Ronald, affectionately known as Ron, was born in the winter of 1947 on February 22nd. He was the blessing of the late Lloyd and Amy Burgess Chandler and his stepfather "Poppy" Smith.
Ron lived an amazing life and finished his race with a lot of great stories to tell. He was a 1965 graduate of Ceredo Kenova High school and shortly after joined the United States Navy where he had an impressive Military Career. To talk to Ron you would have never known he had experienced so many historic events during his time with the Navy. He was a humble man who was only known around town for his love of this family and church. Along side of his wife, Ron raised two children and got to experience the love of his precious grandbabies. He supported his family for many years as a machinist at McCorkle Machine shop and acted as fire chief and served with Kenova Vol. Fire Department. before his retirement in 2009. Ron loved to watch his children play sports and loved sports in general. He even coached football and basketball for a number of years.
Ron had an unwavering faith and would talk about Jesus to anyone who would listen. His actions and the way he lived his life were a testament to that faith. Ron was an active member at England Hill Free Will Baptist Church. It was there at the church that Ron felt the most at peace.
Ron's journey on this earth has ended, but his story continues in the presence of his Savior. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has finally received the reward of eternal peace and joy in Heaven. His legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in every heart he touched.
Ron leaves behind his loving daughter Tammy Thompson and her husband Brian of Louisa, KY, his precious grandchildren, Jodie Chandler, Tessia Dotson, Lloyd TJ Chandler, Michael Thompson, Chad Thompson, Dakota Chandler, Alex Chandler, Lilly Chandler, Jaxon Chandler, Greyston Thompson, Harlee Dotson, Aviana Thompson, Presley Chandler, Willow Chandler, two "Bonus Babies", one brother Lane Chandler of Proctorville, OH, sisters-in-law Ithel Minton, Bonnie Stewart, Brenda Adkins, and Connie (Rube) Shannon, and two brothers-in-law Teddy Stewart and Darell (Shelly) Stewart. Also surviving is a special niece Pamela Pack, his Best Friend Bob Williams, and two daughters Melinda Calhoun and Melissa Bailey, and their children, many other extended family members, and friends.
In addition to his Parents, Ron is reunited with his wife of 53 years Alice Sue Stewart Chandler, and his beloved son Lloyd Chandler, one sister Jane Fox, one sister-in-law Mary (Doodle) Salyers, and brothers-in-law David (Sis) Stewart, Timbo Stewart, and Chuck Minton.
A visitation for Ron will be held on October 24, 2025, at England Hill Free Will Baptist Church from 6pm to 8pm. A Funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday October 25, 2025, beginning at 11am where Pastor Justin May and Pastor Willie May will officiate. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Funeral service. Ron will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to England Free Will Baptist Church at 10201 Mayo Trail, Catlettsburg, Ky 41129.
