Ronald Ross Cromie, better known as Ron, passed away on August 4, 2025, at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan, after courageously battling cancer and other illnesses. He was 77 years old.

Born on October 13, 1947, in Rochester, Michigan, to Norman and Geraline Cromie, Ron grew up with a curiosity for how things worked and a fascination for anything with an engine. He began his career at Douglas Stamping Company in Berkley, Michigan, where he worked his way up through the ranks and eventually retired as Plant Manager. His career also included a memorable stint at Disney World-just one of many adventures that showcased his willingness to explore new paths.

Ron was happiest playing with his "toys"-muscle cars like his Nova, El Camino, and Mustang, along with a "souped-up" dune buggy, boats, and motorcycles. He was as passionate about working on cars as he was about showing them off. Whether parking in Pontiac for the Woodward Dream Cruise, attending the annual Frankenmuth car show, or swapping stories with his car club buddies, Ron found joy in the camaraderie and craftsmanship of the classic car world.

Entirely self-taught and internally motivated, Ron delighted in figuring out how things worked and fixing them himself. He was a true tinkerer at heart, often elbow-deep in an engine or building something with his own two hands.

Ron was a bona fide "cat dad," and doted on his two feline friends Mork and Mindy.

After retirement, Ron moved north to Roscommon, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life filled with fresh air, weekend adventures, and the freedom to hit the road whenever the mood struck. He traveled often, with memorable trips to Mexico, California, Texas, and Florida. He and Rosie joined the Grayling Moose and participated in charitable activities - as well as joining in on rowdy bus trips to the casino and enjoying drinks and dancing whenever possible!

Ron was known for his quick wit, big heart, and unforgettable one-liners. A natural storyteller and a true character, he loved to make people laugh and always had a tale to tell. In his later years, he found comfort in the quiet joy of watching old Westerns and British mysteries on PBS.

As his health began to decline, Ron moved back downstate to be closer to family and receive the care he needed. His family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hurley Hospital for the exceptional care and support they provided during his final days.

Beloved husband of Rosemary for 35 years.

Cherished stepdad of Sharon Fitzpatrick, Matthew Fitzpatrick and the late Frederick Fitzpatrick.

Proud Grampa of Jaclyn McHale (Adam) and Jamie Hudson, and Great Grampa of Hayden and Anthony Hudson.

Dear uncle of Norman Kennedy (Adam) and Patrick Wetherwax (Beth).

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, from 9:30-11:30AM at A.J. Desmond & Sons 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy (248) 362-2500. The family looks forward to remembrance and fellowship with loved ones - a formal service will not be held. A luncheon will follow the gathering.
