Monticello - Ronald E. Dean, 88, of Monticello passed away at 10:13 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 21, 2026) at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.
Ronald was born on May 7, 1937, in Monticello, the son of Leonard "Buck" and Bonnie (Frye) Dean. He married Phyllis M. Lancaster on Feb. 8, 1958, in Covington, Ind.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Phyllis Dean of Monticello; daughter Debbie (Terry) McGraw of Savoy; son, Doug (Paula) Dean of Champaign; grandchildren, Brandi (Sherfield) Dawson, Andrew (Morgan) McGraw, Carissa (Thomas) Dean Hodis and Christian Dean; great-grandchildren, George, Chloe and Max Dawson, Millie, Memphis and Major McGraw, Olivia Popis and Hensley and Mallory Hodis; and sister, Delores "Snooky" Adkins of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Dixie Dean; and brother, Dick Dean.
Ronald was a University of Illinois fireman and worked at Bacon Van Buskirk. He enjoyed building model airplanes and trains out of wood. Ronald loved watching his grandchildren play sports, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Mansfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home or Maple Point.
