Ronald "Allen" Grether, Jr., 62, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Born to the late Ronald Allen Sr. and Barbara Grether, Allen lived a life marked by hard work, deep faith, and an unwavering love for his family.
Allen spent many years as a skilled concrete finisher for Kirchgessner Construction, leaving his mark on countless projects. But his true legacy lies not in his work, but in his role as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. A dedicated member of Carr Township Baptist Church, Allen's faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him.
In his youth, Allen was known for his dashing looks and gentlemanly charm, qualities that captured the heart of Melissa, the love of his life and his beloved wife of 44 years. Melissa often joked that "she won," but anyone who knew their love story knew it was a shared victory built on devotion, laughter, and partnership.
To his children and grandchildren, Allen was much more than a Papaw-he was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. He will be remembered for his kind heart, steadfast dedication to his family, and the countless cherished moments he created with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Grether Sr. and Barbara Grether Morgan; grandson, Kamm VanGilder; and brother, Michael Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Pickerill Grether; daughters, Casey Robinson (Glenn) and Candace Grether (Steven Atwood); grandchildren, Dylan Robinson, Carmen Robinson, Zeke Pritchard, Emma Atwood, and Jack Atwood; and siblings, Darlene Grether, Jessica Morgan, Alisa Bruce, Jimmy Morgan.
Allen's family will honor his wish for cremation. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life at 1:00 p.m., at Carr Township Baptist Church, 2720 Crone Road, Borden, IN 47106.
Allen's love, faith, and unwavering commitment to his family and his Lord leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered.
