William Letcher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home on Oct. 4, 2025.
William (Bill) Letcher, 92, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away while surrounded by his family on October 2, 2025.
Born to Earl and Minnie (Vaughn) Letcher of Carlisle, Kentucky on Christmas Day, 1932, Bill was a man whose life was defined by hard work, devotion to family, and persistent love. Bill was one of 10 children, and at 16, he met the love of his life, Shirley Shaw. The two were inseparable from the start and were married on July 10, 1954, sharing 72 years together.
Following two years of service to his country in the U.S. Army, Bill attended and graduated from the University of Louisville. He and Shirley built a loving family, welcoming their son, Jeffrey, and their daughter, Shawna, in the 1960's.
Bill led the Scherich Kitchen Cabinet Company, as a plant manager for over 3 decades. He was admired for his leadership and work ethic. Later, he became the leading sales representative for Cameo Marble, excelling in his field for many years before retiring. Even in retirement, Bill remained active, working at PC Building Supply designing kitchens.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his commitment to his work, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met. Sports were Bill's lifelong passion. A devoted fan of the Louisville Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, he rarely missed a chance to cheer for his teams. In his younger years, he was an accomplished softball pitcher and an avid golfer. Beyond his personal love of sports, he gave back to his community by serving as president of Clarksville Little League and volunteering for game-day duties with the Clarksville High School football team. He adored his 3 grandchildren who made him a Papoo and spent as much time with them as possible.
Bill also gave his time generously to civic and faith-based organizations. He was a long-time member of the Clarksville Kiwanis Club, serving in various roles to support his neighbors and community. Above all else, his greatest joy was his church. His love for and devotion to Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife Shirley Shaw Letcher, his son Jeff (Jackie) Letcher, his daughter Shawna (Ken) Williams. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey Williams, Cassidy Williams, and Kali Letcher, and a sister, Faye Letcher.
Bill will be remembered as a man of steadfast faith, quiet strength, and selfless service-a loving husband, father, and friend whose kindness touched countless lives. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Clarksville Kiwanis Club, P.O Box 2542, Clarksville, Indiana 47131-2542.
