Ronald Leo Heisterkamp, age 77, of Mondamin, Iowa left this life Thursday, January 19th at Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont, Nebraska. Ron was born July 30th, 1945, in Onawa, Iowa to Frank and Martha (Determan) Heisterkamp. He was the youngest of ten siblings raised on the family farm. He graduated from West Monona Community School in 1963 and attended Iowa State University. On November 5th, 1966, he married Geraldine Wallis in Onawa, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965 and saw active duty stationed in Korea 1968 - 1969. Staff Sergeant Heisterkamp supervised the manufacture of liquid oxygen for the USAF pilots. Honorably discharged in 1970, Ron continued to serve his country and community through service in the United States Air Force National Guard, Monona County Special Deputies, 4-H leader, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694. Ron farmed and raised livestock on the Heisterkamp family farm and later drove a tractor trailer hauling oversized loads for Con-E-Co in Blair, Nebraska until his retirement at the age of 70.
Ron is survived by his wife, Geraldine, son Kirk and wife Christine (Wilkin) and grandson, Wyatt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son Heath and wife Tina (Kroon), granddaughter Kenna and grandson Colt of Mondamin, Iowa and son Jared of Sherman Oaks, California.
Ron was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a heartwarming individual with exceptional storytelling abilities which were accompanied by his beautiful smile and contagious laugh.
A Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Wayne Bahr will be held at the Mondamin, Iowa Community Center on Saturday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. Military honors and interment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date. See information online at CaldwellParrish.com.
