Ronald Harry Jernstrom, 81 years old, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 in South Bend.
Ron was born on May 26, 1944 in Mishawaka to the late Harry Gunnar and Ann (Csiszar) Jernstrom. On April 8, 1967 in South Bend, Ron married the love of his life of 58 years, Gayle B. Niedbalski, who survives.
Along with his loving wife, Gayle, Ron is survived by his son, Jay (Cynda) Jernstrom; grandson, Gunnar Jernstrom; brother-in-law, Ray Nied; sister-in-law, Linda Niedbalski; and his cousin, Mary Ann Sorocco.
Ron honorably served his country in the United States Army. He then worked as a salesman for Homecrest Cabinets for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, going on vacations to Florida and Vegas, as well as cheering on IU, the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Ron valued going out with his Tuesday and Saturday breakfast group. He also loved playing cards and spending time at his friends' house at Indian Lake with Gayle every week. Ron adored his beloved grand dog, Ty Wrigley, but above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandson, Gunnar- and attending all of his sporting events in Chicago. Every moment he spent cheering Gunnar on meant the world to him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 W Dunham St., South Bend. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Ronald Harry Jernstrom may be made out to St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1308 W Dunham St, South Bend, IN 46619
