Ronald Matteri Obituary

Ronald "Ronnie" Matteri
Ronnie Matteri passed away peacefully at home in October, 2023, surrounded by loving family, as he wished. He was 82.

He was born to Rico and Jennie Matteri in 1941 in Petaluma, CA. He grew up on the Matteri Dairy on Petaluma Hill Road in Santa Rosa with his two older brothers, Henry and Bob. The three of them were known around town as the "Matteri Boys."

Ronnie graduated in 1958 from Santa Rosa High School, where he was active in FFA and band, winning many awards in both. One of his fondest memories was being the school mascot, "Pandi."

After graduation, he worked as a plumber until purchasing Santa Rosa Plating. He is still remembered for his chrome plating on hot rods, race cars, and boats all over the country. He loved the creativity and mastery of his work.

At the age of 34, Ronnie began dating the love of his life, Katie. They were married a little over a year later and worked side by side at their plating business and other investment ventures. They truly had the time of their lives together, and seldom was one seen without the other.

Ronnie loved fast cars, boats, and motorcycles. He especially loved hot boats, and he loved racing them. He was also a flat track motorcycle racer and was considered one of the fastest – and coolest -- dudes on the track. The love of bikes never left him, and he and Katie enjoyed traveling with their friends on their Harley Fat Boy. Many memories were made on the road.

In 1984, with the help of close friends, Ronnie built a custom hot rod that went on to win International Grand Champion. It was named the number one car in the United States and was awarded most beautiful car in Canada. Ronnie and Katie traveled for a year across the United States and Canada, showing their car and making lasting friends wherever they went.

At the age of 50, Ronnie sold the plating business and retired. But he never slowed down. He began doing woodworking and built beautiful oak furniture, as well as large Victorian birdhouses featured in Better Homes and Gardens and sold nationwide.

Ronnie also had a green thumb and a knack for landscaping. He turned their home into a paradise listed on the Sweetwater Garden Tour for two years.

Ronnie loved his large family deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents Rico and Jennie, brothers Henry and Bob, and in-laws Richard and Gertrude Isaacs, who considered him their son. He is lovingly survived by his wife Katie and son Ron (Connie). He is also survived by son Rod Matteri. He leaves behind his grandchildren Chad Matteri (Ashlee), Hayley Wells (Mick), and Jordan Matteri. He was blessed with four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ronnie left a huge fingerprint on this earth, and all who knew him will remember him as being one of a kind. He had a great sense of humor, brought laughter into every room, and always had a positive outlook on life. His charm and charisma endeared him to all who knew him.

The family wishes to thank Maggie, Liku, Lia, and Jimi for providing Ronnie with such wonderful, loving care. You are truly Angels on Earth. Thank you also to Providence Hospice and Leroy Keiser, MD.

Ronnie said he will be the brightest star in the sky every night, so please look up to say hello and share a memory.

Donations in Ronnie's memory may be made to Jamison FFA Merit Award, c/o Santa Rosa Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 1513, Santa Rosa, CA 95402. No services will be held per his request.

Happy 48th Anniversary Sweetheart. I Love You so very much.
Absolutely beautiful day and a day full of beautiful memories.
It was 48 years ago tonight that we along with Donna & Jerry said I do to each other and the four of us were blessed with very long and happy marriages.
I would do it all over again Baby. I have to say we did have the time of our lives together.
Thank you for loving me and making my life so special. I miss you and only can keep going knowing that we will be together again.
Thank you for all the moments that you have let me know that you are still with me. You are keeping your promises, and I too am keeping mine to you.
Sweet Dreams and I will look forward to seeing you in my dreams tonight.

Ronnie,
Last night I wished you a Happy Valentines Day just like I have for the past 50 years and wrote on this journal to you but for some reason it hasn't posted.
I know your spirit was watching over me at the time and you were able to read it.
I miss you so very much. Hugged your pillow in the morning and whispered Happy Valentine's Day to you in the morning and also last night.
Thank you for the beautiful dream you brought to me last night, it was so nice to see you.
Our family and friends are truly what are getting me through these very rough roads I am walking on until I can be back in your arms forever.
Thank you again for all your moments that you show up when I truly need your guidance. I love you beyond words Baby and I am doing the best I can.
Love & Kisses,
Katie

Happy Valentines Day Sweetheart. I woke this morning and rolled over and hugged your pillow and wished you a Happy Valentine Day just like I have for 50 years now.
I received so many wonderful messages from our family and beautiful friends, thank God for all of them as they truly keep me going without you. They all love and miss you.
I stopped today and reflected on all the Valentine Days we spent together and I can honestly say not one bad memory. Maybe a couple of giggles on a couple but thanks for the great memories. You truly are one of kind and I just can't express how much I miss you. I just know that someday I'll be back in your loving arms. Well, I am starting to become the wuss right now that you told me not to be so I will stop!
I just looked up at the sky to find your star but all I see is the start of rain drops so I sent my love to you through them.
Thank you for guiding me with the mess down at our old shop and for keeping me calm when the tv blew out the other day! I do feel your support.
I am off to hug (and kiss) your pillow goodnight and hurry to sleep so hopefully see you in my dreams. I love and miss you Baby. Sweet Dreams and thank you for watching over me.
Love & Kisses,
Katie

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Baby.
I wrote you a long letter on Christmas, but I see here that it did not go through. I made it through another year of holidays without you, not by choice I must say.
Spent Christmas morning with Chad and his family. Our Great Granddaughters are absolutely adorable, and you would love spoiling them I am trying to spoil them double time for both of us. You would be so proud of Chad and Ashlee, they are wonderful parents.
Christmas afternoon I spent with our Nieces and Nephews at Leroy and Denises' house. It was so much fun. Leroy fixed an absolutely delicious prime rib, and I had a well-done piece just for you. We played games after, and all laughed at the last time you were there and we played games. Your memory is so kept alive, and everyone misses you so much. Day after Christmas I went to our nephew Sy and niece Loretta's for a delicious dinner that they fixed. Our Godbabbies flew in from down South and Garrett & Avery made it home for the holidays too. Teri and Loretta were both so excited to have their kids home for the holidays. Was really nice but just not the same without you. We had spent so many holidays in the house there.
On the 30th Ronnie & Connie hosted a Christmas get together dinner for just all the immediate family and it was wonderful. Got to spend time with our Great Granddaughter Presley and Great Grandson Easton. Oh my God, you would just love them. Presley is really into sports and stunningly beautiful. Easton so reminds me of a mini you! Always smiling and teasing people! You would also be so proud of the wonderful Mother Hayley is, and Mick is a great Dad, it so shows in our Great Grandchildren. Ronnie & Connie's home and property is all remodeled and looks so nice. I am sure that you look down on our son often, he really has my back honey, you'd be so proud of him.
Yesterday Terrie came up and we had lunch together and opened presents and remembered many wonderful times with you and Jim. She misses her Dad # 2 so very much too.
Last night I opened a small bottle of champagne and toasted to the wonderful life that you and I shared, I hope you heard what I whispered to you! I curled up with my warming lap blanket that was given to me and both Sonny and Smoky spent the whole night laying on my lap. As I sat there and the year came to an end, I counted my blessings of all the wonderful people that surround me and guide me through this journey.
Well, Baby as the new year begins our renters moved out of our shop and now it is going to be cleaned, painted and put on the market. Another closure in our lives but it is time. Please watch down as this happens and guide me spiritually as it is hard to do these things without you. Thank God for Ronnie Jr.
I hope that you had wonderful holidays in Heaven and thank you for showing up when I really need you. Your little reminders mean the world to me and make this journey easier know you are always with me.
Big hugs and kisses sweetheart. See you in my Dreams tonight.
Love & Kisses,
Katie

Happy Thanksgiving Love. Shared the day with our nieces and nephews and great niece Averie. Sy and Loretta fixed a wonderful dinner, and you would have loved it. They had all your favorites and of course I made Auntie Anna's Jello salad but no nuts this year! You got out voted!
We all shared stories of past Thanksgivings, and your life is kept so alive in all of us. You are missed so very much.
Ronnie spent the day with his new little cows, he is following in the Matteri tradition! You would be so proud of him, I know I am. He is a constant reminder of you and such a joy to have in my life.
I pray that you and all the family upstairs had a heavenly day.
I am going to go see if I can find your brightest star to say goodnight to.
Please just know that I am doing the best I can, but it is so hard to exist without you. You were and will always be the love of my life and my very best friend. Thank you for sharing your life with me. I love you. xoxo See you in my dreams baby.

The promises we made to each other are still being kept.
I Love and miss you beyond words sweetheart. I hope to see you in my Dreams tonight.

Went to a block party yesterday and so many people were asking about you and sharing wonderful memories you had made with them.
It's so hard to do things without you but I am trying my best but it sure isn't the same. I always feel your spirit guiding me along just like we talked about.
Enjoy your perfect view of the fireworks this year and I will look for you in the stars.

Happy Father's Day Sweetheart.
Oh, my goodness it was a full day. I first want to once again thank you for always being such a great Dad, Grandpa & Great Grandpa. You also are always cherished by your Nieces and Nephews. So many of them sent messages today of love to you. Plus, never forget that you are the best hubby ever.
I thank you today for all your love, prayers and watching over Teri as she is waiting to get out of Isreal and come home to all of us. I gave you a big hug today while the bombs were going off and she was in the shelter and know that you were protecting her from above. It is truly hard to be going through this without you by my side, but I am thankful for your spirit that I feel each and every day.
Ronnie Jr. came by today and he too was missing you. What a great son that you raised, he is definitely a mini you!
I love and miss you beyond words Baby. Just know I look for the brightest star each and every night. Thank you for letting me know you are always nearby. Sweet Dream, I love you.

It was always a highlight to visit with you, Katie (my friend since junior high school days) and Ronnie when my husband Steve and I were visiting family in Santa Rosa. We will cherish those memories. Here is a great picture of you and Ronnie when we were out having lunch in Windsor in 2016. The picture depicts a happy couple and, as always during our visits, we had a great time! We will do our best to continue Ronnie´s openness, sincerity, and friendliness. Not sure we can continue the boat or motorcycle racing, though. We will be thinking of you, Katie, and hope to see you soon.

My loving Uncle Ronnie,
He was the most respectful, kindest, sweetest Uncle a gal can ask for. My auntie Katie was very fortunate to have such a man in her life. He has been with me throughout my life. From chroming my ice-skating blades before it shows or competition. To catering my wedding, and to be such an important person in my life after my parents, and brother died. My dad and Uncle Ronnie grew up together at their ranches on Petaluma Hill Road. They did FFA, and plumbing together and much much more. I will never forget him and how much he and Aunti Katie stepped up, he will be truly missed!

I was so sad to hear of Ron's passing. He was the epitome of what we refer to as a "good guy"...always had a smile and loved to "mess with" his friends!! I remember Ron back in the early Seventies and his beautiful Sportster. Actually, everything Ron and Katie had was beautiful...cars, motorcycles, even birdhouses were crafted with Ron's incredible attention to detail. The photo is of an engine -- a 540" Yenko motor -- that Ron and Katie did for me back in the '90's. Everything was plated/polished on that car. I can remember as Dave said, bringing a whole box of parts and fasteners to them on a Thursday and meeting them for breakfast Saturday, with everything done. Two day turn around...not bad, huh?
I haven't seen Ron and Katie for several years and just last month told a friend, "I need to go see Ron And Katie." Now, I wish I had. Rest in peace, my friend. You lived an amazing life and gave so much to so many.

You had the prettiest bike at the Chris Beck Arena with all that sparkle and especially those spokes! The 32 Ford was a work of art second to none. You have made a lasting impression on me that has lasted my lifetime and I thank you. Cruise on my friend, I will miss you.
