Joseph Paul Matteri, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, at home in Shelton, Washington. He was 76 years old.

Joe, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his wife, Connie Woodward; his eldest son, Joseph Robert Matteri; his daughter, Theresa Marie Matteri; his daughter-in-law, Kelly Matteri; his son-in-law, Paul Qassis; and his two loving grandsons, Andreas Sullivan and Nicholas Matteri.

Joe was born on August 7th, 1948, in Sonoma County, California. He, along with his younger brother, Tim, was raised on a beautiful property in Sebastopol owned by his parents, Joseph and Gloria Matteri.

Joe attended Analy High School in Sebastopol, graduating in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served our country with distinction and honor. Upon leaving the military, he began work for Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California. Throughout his 24-year career, he worked to maintain the nation's nuclear submarine fleet, playing a vital role in protecting our nation's security during the Cold War. He and his unit received meritorious commendations from the United States Navy for their outstanding service.

Following his retirement from the Navy, he returned to his passion for aviation through his work for The Boeing Company, where he put his expertise and craftsmanship to work assembling the Boeing 777 aircraft.

After retiring from Boeing, he became the owner & operator of Mountain View Licensing, a successful subagency of the Department of Licensing in Shelton, Washington.

In more recent years, Joe enjoyed a full retirement.

Outside of work, Joe loved being outdoors. He found joy in aviation, scuba diving, camping, boating, hiking and going for long drives on the open road. He listened to big band music of the World War II era. He was a passionate reader and had an encyclopedic knowledge about everything he took an interest in.

During Joe's time on Earth, he had an unwavering dedication to care and provide for his family. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be missed.

Those who knew Joe will most remember him for his unique sense of humor but above all, he was loving, honorable, and loyal to the people he cared about.
