Ronald F. McCloskey, of Jim Thorpe, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 9, 2024. He was 78. Ron was born in Philadelphia on December 11, 1945 to the late Francis (Kelly) and the late Frances McCloskey. He is the beloved husband of Lenora "Snookie" McCloskey (Durnbaugh); father of Michelle McCloskey, grandfather of Kyle, Ian, Matthew and Anthony McCloskey. brother of James (Julie) McCloskey, Jamie McCloskey, Christine McCloskey, and Michael Kelly (Terry) McCloskey. He is also survived by a loving extended family and many friends.
Ron was raised and educated in Philadelphia, a graduate of Frankford High School, Class of 1964. Ron answered the call to serve his country, joining the Air Force where he served as an Air Policeman in Okinawa and Murphysboro, TN. He was later selected to serve in the Honor Guard in Washington D.C. escorting foreign dignitaries and serving in funeral processions at Arlington National Cemetery. During his time at Bolling Air Base, Ron met, and later married, the love of his life, Snookie Durnbaugh.
Ron received an Honorable Discharge in 1968 and returned to his hometown. In Philadelphia, Ron answered the call to serve his local community by becoming a Firefighter, a job he loved dearly. Ron served the greater Philadelphia area for 35 years with the Fire Department. During his tenure, Ron was also the first Drum Major for the Philadelphia Police and Fire Pipes & Drums Band, serving beyond his retirement. He was also involved with sports his whole life, playing and coaching multiple sports teams for the Fire Department.
Ron and Snookie enjoyed 57 years of love and happiness together and were enjoying their retirement in the mountains just outside of the Jim Thorpe area. He will be sorely missed by all who had the chance to know him.

He was a great guys. Many memories of bowling and softball with him and my father (Lt. James Pouliot). He was always there for us as kids. Rest in peace. Go celebrate with Jim and Friends from the Fire Department.
