Heaven gained another angel on August 16, 2025, when Ronald H. Patterson, age 76, passed away. Preceding him in passing are his parents, Hugh and Eloise Patterson, his beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Patterson, his son, Ronald L. Patterson and step-grandson, Chase Nunez. He leaves behind his Daughter, Jeneen (Brewer) and her husband, Jason Nunez, his daughter in law, Jennifer Patterson and six grandsons; Ryan, Chase, Carter, Hayden, Will and Landon, five nieces and one nephew.
Ronald (Ron) was born on January 24, 1949, to Hugh and Eloise Patterson of Council Bluffs, IA. He moved around quite a bit as a young child due to his father's employment with Standard Oil. He attended Downers Grove North High School, graduating in 1968.
At the age of 19, Ron was working as a full-time electrician. He owned 2 Corvettes that he took to the track and raced during his free time. He was living his life doing the two things he loved most; FAST cars and the electrical field.
In 1969, his number was drawn as part of the Selective Service/draft during The Vietnam War. He was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for Basic Training. As fate would have it, nearly 53 years later, his grandson, Chase Brewer would also attend Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood. The Army assigned Ron to be trained as a medical corpsman. He completed his medic training at Fort Sam Houston. He proudly served our country, the Army and his fellow soldiers even after being wounded in the war, himself. Instead of being sent home like other Purple Heart Medal recipients, due to his level of medical training, Ron completed his tour of duty by working in the field hospital. He assisted in surgeries, delivering babies and serving individuals with an array of medical needs. Ron found a love for field medicine and said, "It came very easy to me."
Within a short time of returning home, he met the love of his life, who later became his wife and the mother to his two children. Ron and Liz moved from Illinois to Arizona in 1978, where they both lived until their passing.
He continued his career as an Electrician until his retirement from Sturgeon Electric in March of 2018. He was a proud member of a brotherhood of coworkers, who became lifelong friends.
Ron deeply loved his grandson's and found great meaning and fulfillment from watching them play various sports. He was self-proclaimed as their "biggest fan" in the crowd. Ron attended soccer games, cross country meets, endless basketball games (in and out of state), award ceremonies and traveled to Texas on many occasions to cheer them on at baseball games and golf tournaments. You would often catch him with a tear in his eye because of the pure joy they brought to his life. When his step-grandson entered the same career path as him, even working for the same company, Sturgeon, Ron relished in sharing stories and learning about the jobs he was working on.
Up until April of this year, Ron was an avid gym goer, (some might say he socialized as much as he worked out) walked his loyal companion, his German Shepherd, 1-2 miles each day, took month long road trips in his favorite car and enjoyed time with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed Sunday night family dinners hosted each week by his in-laws, JoAnn and Mike.
Ron has left a huge void in the lives and hearts of those who knew and loved him. His sense of humor, sarcasm and lighthearted spirit brought such joy and light to this world. His "one-liners" and favorite phrases will live on in each of us, especially for his daughter, Jeneen.
