Ronald "Ron" Campbell, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and U.S. Marine veteran, passed away on August 21, 2025, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born on May 25, 1947, in Gaston County to the late George and Marjorie Campbell, Ron embodied a spirit of love and dedication throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Ron served in Vietnam, displaying courage and commitment during a pivotal time in our nation's history and received 3 Purple Hearts during his tour. His military service shaped his strong character, and those who knew him appreciated his unwavering resolve and compassion.
Ron was a devoted family man, survived by his sons, Bobby Campbell (Jill), Ronnie Campbell Jr. (Joy), Johnny Campbell (Starr), and Michael Campbell (Heather). He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to 16 grandchildren: Bobby, Brittni, Jacob, Aundrea, Karsen, Carter, Jack, David, Dustin, Wesley, Nova, Kaila, Isabel, Taylor, Steven, and Samantha. He proudly welcomed 6 great-grandchildren into his family: Bentley, Blakely, Chloe, Noah, Olivia, and Kinley, along with one great-great-grandson, Holden. Ron also cherished the bond he shared with his sister, Georgia Speights.
In addition to his many living relatives, Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Jean Campbell; brother, Robert Campbell; and sister, Patricia Abee. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Ron.
A man of the outdoors, Ron found solace and joy in camping and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories with his family. His caring nature and enthusiasm for life will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation for Ron will take place on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, located at 3411 Weddington Rd, Monroe, NC 28110, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM with burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte. Friends and family are encouraged to gather and celebrate the life of this extraordinary man, whose memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3411 Weddington Rd., Monroe, NC 28110.
