Ronald "Ron" Stromgren, of Stevens Point, formerly of Marinette-Menominee, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a battle with dementia, at Aspirus Hospital, at the age of 76.

Ron was born October 28, 1948, in Stephenson, MI; son of the late Ernest and Helen (Patterson) Stromgren. He was an active, happy, and healthy child, growing up in the area and attending local schools, along with his sister, Karen. Ron graduated from Stephenson High School.

Following high school, Ron attended Northern Michigan University where he had a full athletic scholarship. While in college, he also enjoyed his time in a fraternity. Upon graduating, Ron went on to meet Margaret "Peggy" Ilse and the two were married on March 16, 1974. They welcomed a daughter, Amy, in 1976 and a son, Aaron, in 1983. To support his family, Ron worked at Karl Schmidt Unisia, working his way up from an entry level position to traveling around the world as a Quality Assurance Inspector. Ron was proud to work for the company until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Ron was an avid bowler and golfer. He excelled at both sports and formed a number of friendships throughout his years on bowling leagues and golf courses. Ron was also a collector who enjoyed finding hidden treasures at thrift stores and garage sales. Being a generous man, he loved sharing his treasures with others.

Ron loved music and movies; he always had music playing and, before he got sick, he went to the movies quite often. Ron never met a stranger and he had kind words for everyone. In fact, he was known near and far! He couldn't go shopping or out to eat without running into an old friend. Ron joined many clubs and volunteered his time throughout the years, including the Elks Club, where he was elected Exhalted Ruler, twice. He was part of the Elks for many years, where he would cook Friday night fish fries for the community at the Menominee, MI, Elks Club. He volunteered his time for the local D.A.R.E. program, Optimus Club, coaching his son's baseball team, as well as cooking for the annual Waterfront Festival held in Menominee, MI, by making his local favorite, pork and sour kraut. If there was a club to join, he would.

Above all else, Ron was a loving Dad who was always there for his children and grandchildren. Even after Ron and Peggy divorced, he never missed holidays or special events with his family and remained good friends with Peggy. In his later years, his son and daughter-in-law became Ron's guardians and caretakers. They were with him during his final months, ensuring that his time was filled with love, fun, dignity and compassion.

Ron was loved by everyone who knew him. He had an infectious smile and beautiful twinkling eyes. He was the best Dad and his children were honored to be a part of his life.

Ron is survived by his son, Aaron Stromgren of Plover, along with his wife, Ann, and their son, Ashton Salfai (Kenna) of Green Bay; his daughter, Amy Gunderson of Neenah, along with her husband, Rick, and their children, Ava and Max; and his former wife, Peggy of Menominee, MI. He is further survived by his sister, Karen Ranken of Green Bay, and her children, Matthew and Michelle.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the caretakers at Willow Brooke in Stevens Point, the Aspirus Hospice team, and the Aspirus Hospitals in Stevens Point and Wausau, for the care they provided Ron in his final months. They would also like to thank the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau for the comfort they provided.

For those wishing to express their sympathies, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Ron's honor to the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ron's honor, at Dome Lanes in Marinette, WI, on July 31, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
