Ronnie Ray Mounts, age 84, of
Dover, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Ronnie was born March 11, 1941, in English, West Virginia, to Florence Eastridge and Thomas Jack Mounts. Ronnie was a twin, one of eleven children.
Ronnie proudly served in the US Air Force for nearly 24 years as a Law Enforcement Specialist. During his career, Ronnie earned numerous commendations, including a Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal with two bronze devices, AF Good Conduct Medal with one silver and one bronze device, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two devices, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one bronze device, and many more. Ronnie's military assignments took him across the country and around the world, including Vietnam, Turkey, and Germany, where he met his wife, Gerdi, and built lasting friendships and memories.
After retiring from the military, Ronnie worked as a tax accountant and remained active in his community. He was a dedicated member of the Dover German American Club, serving in several board member positions. His favorite event was the yearly Oktoberfest, and you could find him two stepping around the dance floor most of the night. Ronnie loved to travel around the US with his wife Gerdi. They would drive from Delaware to the west coast and back, taking different routes that he would map out in his atlas with color coded hi-lighters. Ronnie enjoyed ATVing and camping with his son. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs, especially Jake. Ronnie was a proud native of West Virginia and enjoyed sharing stories of his family's history. It's ironic that Ronnie was born in English, West Virginia, as he had a passion for the English language and loved to do crossword puzzles in pen.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gertrud Mounts, daughter Jennifer Greenman and her husband Charles (Ted) Greenman, and his grandchildren Kevin Woodard and his wife Jaimie Woodard, Wendy Greenman, Chase Mounts, Justin Greenman, Jami Mounts, and Amanda Greenman. He is also survived by his twin sister Bonnie Compton, younger sister Fahne Light, and younger brother Johnnie Mounts.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, seven of his brothers and sisters, and his son, Ronnie Wade Mounts, who passed away on September 17, 2025.
Ronnie will be interred with honors at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro DE on January 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
Ronnie supported organizations including The American Cancer Society, The Sunday Breakfast Mission, and Best Friends. His life was marked by service, devotion to family, and a love of community.
