Mr. Roosevelt Woods Sr. passed away May 27, 2025. Age 95 years. He was born December 29, 1929, in Forest City, Arkansas. The son of Ivery Woods and Annie Davis.
Roosevelt was a Deacon and faithful member of the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Hayti, Missouri for over 75 years. He was a prayer warrior and was always concerned about the spiritual life of those he came in contact with. He wanted to see everyone saved, often during conversations he would ask, “Do you know the Lord?” Roosevelt was a stern, yet humble man, and a devout Man of God. He found joy in singing the old-time gospel hymns and was a bass singer for The Gospel Four. He also loved reading his Bible, chewing bubble gum, and spending time in his garden, where he grew vegetables and beautiful flowers. He was a great provider and took pleasure in spending time with his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory children, Estella Bailey, Mary L. Sheppard, Shirley A. Woods, William L. Woods, Robert L. Woods, all of Lansing, Michigan, Phillip (Connie) Woods, and Roderick (Cheri) Woods, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; stepdaughters, Diane Jackson of Sikeston, Missouri and Annie L. Baldwin of Atlanta, Georgia; 39 grandchildren; 93 great grandchildren; sister, Lola M. Allen of St. Louis, Missouri; many cousins; and brother-in-law, Sammie L. Gipson of Portageville, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary A. Woods; sons, Roosevelt Woods Jr. and Larry L. Woods; daughters, Pearlie Cox and Emma Mason; grandson, Johnny Conner; granddaughter, Sonji Mitts; and mother, Annie Davis.
The family would like to express special thanks to Paradise Funeral Chapel and to everyone for their acts of kindness during this time. Thank you for the phone calls, prayers, and the love that has been shown. It will never be forgotten.
