I was born 26 February 1939, to Wilford Jens Jensen and Agnes Ann Fitzgibbon, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and given the name of Rosalie Mae Jensen. My two brothers, Roy Wilford and Robert Lincoln and I, were taken from the State of Utah, shortly after my third brother (Josef Moroni) died as a baby.
The happiest time of my foster care life was when my brothers and I lived just a few doors apart in Salt Lake City's westside.
In 1949, my father died after my mother had died in 1947. Thus, we became orphans and by state law were adopted. My brothers went to a Harris family in Wyoming, while I was adopted to Cliff and Mabel Olsen in Wellsville, Utah. I found out from my third-grade teacher, who told me (rather unkindly), that my correct name was changed to RosaLee Olsen.
It was here that I learned many lessons of life. I tend to remember mostly the negative ones, and there were plenty of them. It seems that the most important one was that my value to the family was mostly based on how much work (done correctly) I did per day. My new father seemed good and fair, however, was usually overridden by Mabel.
I found work as a telephone operator as soon as I graduated from high school and took with me very few social and personal relationship skills.
Married Larry Keith Hartwell at Brigham City, Box Elder, Utah in 1959. In 1963, we had our daughter, JoLynn. She was followed by our son, Jay L., in 1965. We lived in Clearfield, Davis, Utah for several years, even after Larry and I divorced. Those were very difficult years for everyone who touched our lives. A part-time mother with limited time to apply very limited skills and single parent so many mistakes.
I later tried to find a marriage of happiness with Rodney Wertz in 1985, at Clearfield, Davis, Utah. This ended in an unhappy divorce in 1993.
Dancing, both ballroom and square, became my passion. Visits to family (including my two grandchildren: Alyssa and Michael) were such special times. JoLynn is their mother.
Gordon Jay Butler and I met at a singles dance shortly after his wife of just short of 60 years passed on. We married on 29 July 2016, in Marriott/Slaterville, Weber, Utah. This marriage was solemnized on 4 August 2017, in the Ogden, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I have spent many hours, on my knees, both alone and with my husband beside me, praying that Almighty God and my fellow sons and daughters of His, will forgive me of any trespass or transgression I may have committed against them and Him! It has never been my intent to disrespect or hurt anyone!
My husband did his best to provide a loving family home as he knew I was denied that for most of my life. I told God and friends how I enjoyed having prayer, with my husband kneeling beside me, for the fist time in my life!
My freed Spirit separated from my worn-out body on 26 September 2025, at Forsyth, Taney, Missouri. Leaving behind Jay L. Hartwell, JoLynn Graczyk, Alyssa Casalsapo, and Michael Casalaspo.
My earthly remains are to be cremated by Cremations of the Ozarks. The ashes to be shared with JoLynn and Alyssa with the major portion to be buried alongside my husband's, in the Ogden, Utah City Cemetery.
Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.
