Caroline Butler, age 96, of Crothersville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana.
Born in Seymour on March 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ida (Rubenaker) Lacey. Caroline was a graduate of Crothersville High School, Class of 1947 where she was the Salutatorian, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Asbury College in 1951.
On July 10, 1955, Caroline married Dr. Joe Butler at the Crothersville United Methodist Church. They shared 65 wonderful years together before his passing on April 24, 2021.
Caroline lived a life devoted to her family and faith. A lifelong member of the former Crothersville United Methodist Church, she was active in her community as a founding member of the Happy Appronnets Home Economics Club, a 4-H leader, member of the Gideon Auxiliary, a room mother for her kids school, Sunday School teacher, and a leader in Vacation Bible School.
Before her marriage, Caroline taught school for one year in Michigan and three years in Columbus, Indiana. Afterward, she dedicated herself fully to being a homemaker, raising her family with love, faith, and grace.
Caroline was a devoted Christian whose faith guided every part of her life. She began each morning with devotions alongside her children and filled her home with warmth and prayer. She cooked thousands of meals for her family, managed countless schedules, and carried herself with quiet strength and love. To those who knew her, she was the best mom and "Mam" anyone could hope for.
She is survived by her children, Rick Butler of Crothersville, IN, Betsy (Andy) Petty of Crothersville, IN, Randy (Donna) Butler of Seymour, IN, Dr. Dan (Erin) Butler of Middletown, OH, Kim (Kelly) Hunter of Lexington, KY, and Tim (Jeong-Hee) Butler of Daegu, South Korea; 17 grandchildren, Ashlee Butler, Aimee (Mitch) England, Ben Bowman, Marc Bowman, Lacey (Matt) Howard, Evan (Georgia) Petty, Cory (Annabelle) Butler, Cameron (Anna) Butler, Joe Butler, Chris Butler, Cyia Butler, Dalton Butler, Sarah Butler, Jacob Hunter, Lauren Hunter, Hannah Butler, and Grace Butler; eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas "Tom" Lacey and Elaine Smith.
Her grandson, Dr. Benjamin Bowman, will conduct funeral services on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, IN, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on the same day.
