Rosaline (Rosie) Marie (Ettestad) Nesset, 83, of rural Kelliher, MN passed away while surrounded by family on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Cease Funeral Home of
Blackduck, MN with Dwight Kalvig officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Rosie was born on April 5th, 1941 to Henry and Anna (Sorquist) Ettestad, Northome, Minnesota in the Wildwood area. She was the youngest of eleven brothers and sisters: Archie, Velma, Knute, Lila, Myron, Milton, Eunice, Gordy, Howard and Vincent.
Rosie graduated from Northome High School in 1959 and soon thereafter, moved to Busy Corner where she lived and worked at the Busy Corner Store. It was during that time that her and Allan Nesset's relationship grew, and they were married on September 1, 1962. They lived in the area until purchasing their farm at the Busy Corner junction.
Rosaline and Allan had four children, Clorette (Jeff) Stomberg, Delwin Nesset (Jeannie), Nancy Nesset Reeves and Tanya Swedberg; ten grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Lena, Chelsey, Masion, Logan, Hunter, Jordan, John and Tim; and eight great grandchildren, Waylon, Ollie, Kellan, Hayden, Bria, Landyn, Wyatt and Adelynn Rose.
Rosie was first and foremost a mother and a homemaker. She worked at a couple of different jobs after her children were old enough to attend school, upon which time, she worked at the Corner Sports Craft, then took a position as a specialty seamstress at Anderson Fabrics in Blackduck. She was known to many to be a good spirited and upbeat. Always quick to lend a helping hand; often dropping her work or project of the moment. She loved a good joke and had a hardy laugh. She greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Some of her most notable times were spent at Wildwood picnics, family gatherings at "The Farm" (where she grew up) and Holiday dinners where she would spend days preparing her home and a meal.
Rosie was a visionary in her own right. She had a unique and creative ability to see the possibilities and potential of any item. She would often be found in quiet contemplation; drawing up plans for her next project, which she carried on throughout all of her years. She was innovative, imaginative, meticulous, and had an eclectic, somewhat whimsical and ever evolving style, whether it was with her clothing, jewelry, furnishings or designs.
Rosie loved everything to do with decorating, from drawing up construction plans to doing construction projects, designing, redesigning, painting, sewing, refurbishing, reupholstering and watching various DIY or decorating shows. One of her favorite pastimes was thrifting and looking for the next bargain to be used in her home. Nothing went to waste with her.
Throughout her life, Rosie enjoyed many special memories with all of her family members. She held special bonds with Shirley, a niece who was born six months prior to her; Loren and Nanette, whom she was like a second mother to; Brad, a nephew who would go the extra mile for her, and likewise. And Pat, Pat and Pat, all sisters-in law.
During the last fourteen months of her life, she resided, close to her family, in the refurbished barn on her and Allan's original homestead. Over the years, she had been intricately involved in the renovation and redesigning of the space and quickly made it into her very own by decorating with all of her treasures. Each of those treasures held an important and personal story to her.
Rosie had recently expressed that she "had plans" for the upcoming summer of getting out in the yard, working on more projects and having many more Sunday morning breakfasts; a tradition that her grandson, Hunter, had initiated shortly after she relocated to the barn, and which she eagerly looked forward to.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna; her husband, Allan Nesset; all of her sisters and brothers; a niece, Kathleen; and 2 nephews, Gary and Dean.
Alas, although it feels as if her story shouldn't be over yet, we must say goodbye and move into our new chapters without her. The loss of her has been unbearable at times, but she left a powerful legacy that will absolutely live on for years to come.
