Rosamond Dehner Obituary

Published by D. O. McComb and Sons - Lakeside Park on Apr. 8, 2018.
Rosamond J. Dehner, 94, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018, surrounded by her family at her home in Fort Wayne. She was born in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Richard Joseph and Georgia Blackwell, and grew up in New Haven, IN. Rosamond graduated from Central Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Holy Rosary Sodality. Surviving are her children: Gregory C. (Madeleine) Dehner of Fort Wayne, IN; Jane A. (Michael) Arata of Fort Wayne, IN; Ann E. Dehner of Boise, ID; Susan D. (Jeff) Kucer of Indianapolis, IN; Jay G. (Chloe) Dehner of Spokane, WA; Deborah M. Hacker of Plainfield, IN; sister, Sharon R. Bamberger of NY; 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren. Rosamond was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Gerald "Jerry" Dehner; brothers, Richard O. Blackwell, Carroll D. Blackwell, and Charles Blackwell; sisters, Georganna Langhorst, Marilyn Z. Heiny, and Patricia A. Gotta. Rosamond enjoyed a long, full life as a devoted wife, magnificent mother, a cheerful grandmother and caring friend. She was multi-dimensional, having many talents, skills and hobbies. She owned and operated her own small business and later became the CEO of a growing Dehner family. She leaves the strongest legacy in her commitment to family and philanthropy. Education, kindness and manners were important to this gracious woman. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a Boy Scouts den mother. As both Mom and Grandma, she had a magic touch with babies and could sooth a restless child with a melodic voice or gentle embrace. She was perhaps Notre Dame football's biggest fan, and she enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for most other sports as well. Whether fixing gourmet meals or playing piano, weaving baskets or introducing another child to waterskiing, euchre or the Jitterbug, she remained forever young at heart. Mass of Christian Burial is 1:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2018, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2130 Pemberton Drive, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 5-8 pm Thursday, April 12, 2018, at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Soup Kitchen, Matthew 25, or Parkview Home Health and Hospice. To sign the online guest book, please visit www.domccombandsons.com.

Dear Dehner Family,

I am sorry to hear about Rosie's passing. She was a special person. I have such fond memories from all of the summers growing up next door at the lake.

Your mother had a great smile and a great laugh. I can still hear that laugh.

Stay well, and I hope to see you soon.

Respectfully;

Chris Hipskind

Susie, I am so sorry about your mom, but she had a wonderful life filled with the joy you and your siblings brought to the family. I remember meeting her at the Pi Phi house and again at the big "do" in Fort Wayne. Both of your parents were so friendly and welcoming. I am sorry I can't make the visitation, but am thinking of you and your family at this time. Leslie

I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. Your mom and dad were good friends to my parents. She was such a sweet lady. She lit up the room with her smile. It is never easy losing a parent and she lived a long life surrounded by her family which she adored.

We all will miss our Aunt Rosie. In all our summers on Wawasee, I don't recall ever seeing her without a smile on her face. She was a beautiful example of kindness and piety; she and Uncle Jerry together had such impressive, lively characters. They were always up to something good. It is a sign of what a generous heart she had that, even in old age, she made a point of dropping this distant grand-nephew a note or a card from time to time over the years. How nice it was to be remembered by her, and my family will certainly remember her, and pray for her, in the years ahead. God bless all the Dehner family.
