Rose M. Martin 95, Rothschild, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 9, 2025 while under the care of Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born on June 3, 1930 in Wausau, daughter of the late Stanley and Johanna (Jirgl) Duir of Mosinee. Rose married her “soldier boy,” Donald Martin on February 14, 1953 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Donald preceded her in death in 2021.
Rose went to school to become an X-Ray Technician in 1952 and worked at Wausau Insurance until she married Donald. After raising her family, she worked at St. Mark Elementary School as a cook in the school cafeteria.
Cooking for her family and friends was a lifelong passion which Rose enjoyed up until her last days. There were always cookies in the cookie jar and homemade chicken noodle soup for every occasion in our lives. Her other hobbies included cribbage, gardening, bowling, reading, and camping. Being a lifelong fisherman, she passed along her love of the sport to every member of the family and, this past summer she even caught the largest small mouth bass during our annual family vacation. Many bobbers were lost in the brush piles of Oxbow Lake, but many more special memories were made.
Rose was a charter member of St. Mark Catholic Church where she was very active with the Ladies Council and volunteered for many parish functions over the years. Time spent with National Guard and neighborhood friends added a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Survivors include her children Jim (Ginger) Martin, Rothschild, Dick (Lynn) Martin, Presque Isle, Jerry (Cindy) Martin, Appleton, Bob (Tammy) Martin, Mosinee, Mary Martin, Rothschild, and Ann (Doug) Leopold, Rib Lake, 12 grandchildren, her sister in-law Ina Martin, Schofield, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rose was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John (LaDonna) Duir, Glenn Duir, one sister, Joyce Traeger, and twin granddaughters.
The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to the tremendously compassionate Aspirus Care teams that took care of Rose in the past month.
