Rose Reiser Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory - Greenfield on Mar. 2, 2026.
GREENFIELD – Rose Lorene (Cooney) Reiser, age 97, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born in Indianapolis on December 15, 1928, to Frederick Farrell and Estella Lucille (Simon) Cooney. She graduated from Carthage High School. She married Ralph Ray Reiser on August 23, 1947.

Rose was the billing supervisor for Greenfield Utilities where she worked for 25 years before retiring. She was a board member of the Kenneth Butler Soup Kitchen and a member of Nameless Creek Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Rose was known for her cooking and baking and was often an annual winner at the Riley Festival bake-off. She was an avid gardener; known for canning and freezing. Rose enjoyed crafting and was always known for making her greeting cards instead of buying them. She loved the many dogs she had over the years and especially loved her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Jack) Phelps; four grandchildren, Dennis (Amber) Phelps, Jaycie Phelps (Dave) Marus, Brandon (Barb) Reiser, and Elise Reiser (Tyler) Haub; and eight great-grandchildren, Cannon Phelps, Skye Marus, Mia Marus, Cameron Reiser, Benjamin Reiser, Ayden Reiser, Cruz Haub, and Luka Haub. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Farrell and Estella Lucille Cooney; husband, Ralph Ray Reiser; and son, Steve Reiser.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Hancock County Humane Society, 214 E. Main St., Greenfield, IN 46140, or by website at https://www.hancockcountyhumanesociety.org/. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.

Great Aunt Rose was such a loving person. I remember her making baskets and other crafts. I still have a couple of painted santas she made me in my youth. She gave me my first "kissy face" ornament. I have since learned how to make them myself, but I always think of her when I see them. Love you Rose!
