Richard Carroll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory - Greenfield on Mar. 2, 2026.
NEW PALESTINE – Richard "Louie" Lewis Carroll, age 73, of New Palestine, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Indianapolis. He was born on November 14, 1952, in Indianapolis, to Harold R. and Elnora M. (Bardonner) Carroll. He was a graduate of New Palestine High School in 1971, and attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas.

Louie dedicated many years to his work as a construction manager with Hunt Construction Group. He enjoyed helping out on the farm and was always eager to stay busy in any way he could. Louie's passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles began early in his life and continued throughout the years; riding was his favorite pastime. He made several trips to Sturgis and even traveled internationally to ride. Louie's love for the Indy 500 became a family tradition, inspiring his children and grandchildren to enjoy the sport as well. Known for his unmistakable laugh, Louie could always be found by the sound of his joy. He was a kind, loving, and proud individual who deeply cherished his kids and grandkids. Louie lived life to the fullest and found fun in every situation, regardless of the consequences. He was known for his storytelling, often delivered with a touch of exaggeration but usually grounded in truth. His words of wisdom, laughter, and signature squinty smile will be greatly missed.

Louie is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Matt) Sharp; granddaughter, Alie (Drew) Settlemyre; grandson, Troy Brown; great-granddaughter, Phoebe Settlemyre; brother, Doug (Debbie) Carroll; Paula Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold R. and Elnora M. Carroll; and son, Shad L. Carroll.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.
