Rose Marie Spruill of Austin, Texas passed away on June 24th, 2023 at the age of 90.
She was born January 3rd, 1933 in Giddings, Texas to Ernest August Mutschink and Frieda Bertha Christine Feind.
Rose Marie grew up in Giddings, Texas. Her mother Frieda ran the West End motel on 290 East. Her father was a mayor, justice of the peace, fire chief, and opened and ran the Gulf Highway Garage.
In high school, she played clarinet in band and was the FFA Sweetheart in 1947. She met Thereon Phillip Spruill Jr. They were married on December 24,1950 before he went for his Army training.
In 1955 they welcomed Denise and Sandra in 1957. They purchased a brand new house in Austin, Texas shortly after Sandra was born. In 1958, their daughter Twila was born.
Rose Marie was as Girl Scout troop leader for many years. She loved making crafts and being with her children. She was a dedicated member of the Crestview United Methodist church in Austin, Texas.
She was a people person which made it easy for her to sell Avon. She took a full-time job at H-E-B handing out demos and greeting those that entered the store. She stayed busy running errands with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She had a friendly face. She always had a story to tell. She had a glowing, positive personality with a big laugh and smile. She was always filled with love and kindness.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Frieda Mutschink; her husband Thereon Phillip Spruill Jr., mother-in-law Bessie Mae Mertink, her sisters and their husbands Dorothy Lee and Cornell Droemer, Verna Mae and H.D. "Pete" Volkers; her son-in-law Charles Roland Sandt Sr, and grandson Charles Roland Sandt Jr.
She is survived by her three daughters Denise Withers, Sandra and her husband Vernon Lee Tipton, and Twila Sandt; her grandchildren and their spouses Leann Elizabeth Tipton, Erik Allen Withers, Janna and Lt. Kenneth Weiss II, Kimberly Lynn and Joseph Perkins, and Jeffrey Phillip and Arlene Sandt; great-grandchildren Alex Azrael Conine, Julia Rose Henderson, John Xavier Perkins, Nolan Parker Sandt, Austin Phillip Perkins, and Jaxson Kenneth Weiss; and nieces, nephew, and their children.
A public viewing will be July 5th at 9 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 10 a.m. at Austin-Peel and Sons, 607 East Anderson Lane, Austin, TX 78752.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rose Marie's memory may be made to the Children's Ministry at the Violet Crown City Church in Austin, Texas or to the Girl Scouts of America. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Rose, please visit our Tree Store.
