Rosella Grace Bubert, 93, of Peoria passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. She was born in rural Mason County, IL on October 14, 1931 to John and Grace (List) Doyle. On October 12, 1984, she married James Bubert.
Rose is survived by her children: David Merritt of Springfield, IL, and Gregory Merritt of Fontana, CA, 2 grandchildren: Dylan and Lowell Carrico, 2 stepchildren: Marc (Kayla) Bubert and Meryl (Tim) Block, 5 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter: Laura Carrico, 4 brothers: Paul, Bill, Dick, and Johnny, and 1 sister: Marie Barnett.
Rose was a 1949 graduate of Mason City High School. She married Donald Merritt, who, in 1980, preceded her in death. They raised their three children in Morton, Illinois. She was active in the community of Morton, including as an election poll worker.
For more than three decades, Rose volunteered one day each week with the Service League of Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She enjoyed spending time with Jim at their Florida residence, reading, gardening, cooking, antique collecting, playing card and word games, and socializing with family and friends.
A funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 AT 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, burial to follow at Mason City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Community Foundation of Central Illinois entitled James and Rosella Bubert Charitable Fund. Online condolences can be made left at www.hurleyfh.com. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.

Rose was a special aunt to me. She enjoyed visiting with our family on the farm and fishing in our lakes. In recent years, my brother and I would travel to Peoria to visit with her and Jim. I loved Aunt Rose. Condolences to her children and extended family members. Neta McKemie
