Rosemarie Houghton (née Stemmer), age 85, of Rochester, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 13th, surrounded by her children.
Born in Detroit on October 22, 1939, Rosemarie was the beloved wife of the late Sidney Houghton for 57 years. Together they raised four children: Patrick (deceased), Timothy (Pam), Michael (Anita), and Peggy. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Erin Bakst (Noah), Brett Houghton, Matthew Houghton, Nicholas Houghton (Catherine), and Melissa Smith (Carter).
Rosemarie was known for her radiant smile, cheerful spirit, and genuine care for others. She served her community as a longtime member of the local school board and returned to school later in life to earn her doctorate. A woman of great wisdom and resilience, she was always ready to help her family and friends, offering encouragement, insight, and unwavering support.
She cherished her grandchildren and joyfully spent time with them, always making all of them feel special for their unique gifts. Friends and neighbors remember her as a kind and dependable presence who always had time for others.
Rosemarie and her husband Sid were active and social throughout their lives, maintaining lifelong friendships and hosting many joyful celebrations. Even in her final days, she faced death with grace, faith, and clarity, expressing her readiness to meet the Lord.
Rosemarie leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and service to others. Her life touched many and she will be remembered with gratitude and affection.
Visitation Friday, July 18th, from 4-8pm with a 7pm Scripture Service at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby Township), 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Funeral Saturday, July 19th, Instate from 9:30am until time of 10am Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr Rd. Shelby Twp., 48315 (Btw 24 & 25 Mile).
